MACH 2 Rivercity’s High Caliber SH, WC – o/h – Tracey Mayes – Golden Retriever Male

Breaking News!!!!! “Cal” and Tracey completed their Senior Hunter Title in Glide Oregon, 6/18/2011. Wow!! What an exciting moment for Tracey. Her first dog to train and title in Senior. Tracey and Cal have had their struggles transitioning in to the more advanced concepts and training. Tracey dedicated herself to working through what was necessary to make her and Cal a great handler and dog team in this sport. Already highly succesful in the Agiity World as a team  this accomplishment is more than just a Title. It proves just how much can be, when we work hard and apply ourselves. Cal and Tracey have come a long way!  I am very proud of them both!

SR. Magicgold’s Celtic Causeway **, MH, WCX – “Keltie” – o/h – Cheryl Baca – All Breed Qualifying 3RD Place- San Jose Retriever Club – 5/7/11

A wonderful day for Keltie and I. With 22 dogs entered we were thrilled to bits at Keltie’s placement. One whistled her 300 plus yard land blind, and was very honest on the water triple with the long retired gun. Initially I hoped for a JAM and was very disappointed when she did not get called up for one. But, we will take a 3rd Place over a JAM any day!!

Magicgold’s Galloping Gabby ** MH, MNQ, WCX -“Gabby” – o/h- Cheryl Baca- Qualifying  JAM in San Jose Retriever Club’s All Breed Qual – 5/7/11

Gabby completed the All Breed Qual and earned a JAM. She was somewhat “Over The Top” that day and as a result was not as focused as I would have liked. However, we are grateful she was able to earn another JAM and we had Fun!!

“Boy Wonder & Xan — All-Breed Derby JAM!”

Flyway Farms Boom Boom Pow JH WC ** — “Boy Wonder” — Black Flat-coated Retriever Male – O/H Xan Latta

What a team!  Not only did this youngster earn a Judges Award of Merit at the American Chesapeake Club’s All-Breed Field Trial Derby, he actually broke the club’s computerized results reporting system.  Boy Wonder is the son of the 2011 BIS at Crufts, and has shown that he’s got brains as well as looks.

Xan’s comments about Boy included “He always had a love of the game, but is developing the focus & patience to apply it more consistently.  It was very cool to stand among a group of pro-trained, field bred lab handlers to pick up a ribbon.”

.

“Echo & Cathy – New JH, New WC, New CH!”

CH Coastalight Rip Times Two JH WC CGC — “Echo” — Black Flatcoat Female — O/H Cathy Lynch

Echo and Cathy are having quite a spring!  They needed three Junior Hunter legs to complete Echo’s Junior Hunter title and they earned them in a single month, with two passes at the Nor-Cal Golden Retriever Hunt Test in March and one at the Lassen Retriever Club Hunt Test.  They also earned a Working Certificate at the NorCal GRC WC/WCX test in June.

Cathy remarked that “Running & retrieving are the things that Echo loves the most.  I am grateful there is a game made just for her!  On now to Senior!”

To make her spring even more memorable, Echo also completed her conformation championship.  She now has titles in front of and behind her registered name.  We expect to see many more in short order.

“Nalu & Debbie – New SH Title!”

Blue Wave Ryder Catchn A Breez SH NA NF — “Nalu” — Chocolate Labrador Female — O/H Debbie Chun

In February, Nalu and Debbie took a road trip to Arlington, Arizona.  They came back with two rosettes and a new Senior Hunter title.

The Copper State HRC’s spring hunt tests are a four-day event, featuring double-headers for Junior, Senior and Master.  Sounds like a great time!  Congratulations! Now on to Master with this Super Powered Lab and Owner Handler!

.

“Lance & Brenda – New JH!”

Manor’s Lancelot CD JH RAE CCA – “Lance” – Golden Retriever Male – O/H Brenda Radcliffe

Brenda is so proud of Lance that she would write a book.  We are too.  Lance earned his Junior Hunter title three days before his seventh birthday.  From Brenda’s comments – “Lance had no idea how the next few months were going to change his lifestyle when I decided almost a year ago I’d like to have a golden run hunt tests again.  Lance had never learned to swim, had never retrieved a bird and was overwhelmed with the whole idea.  Thanks to Cheryl’s patience, he became a confident, good marking dog.”  Lance’s JH legs were at Sagehen’s RC, Marin Retriever Club and the NorCal Golden Retriever Club’s hunt tests.  Brenda wants to thank her training buddies Renee & Patti, as well as Cheryl for their assistance & encouragement.

“Ryder & Patti – New JH and WC!”

Ryder Dodger Gold CD JH WC RA CGC – “Ryder” – Golden Retriever Male – O/H Patti Kostakis

Ryder made his “novice” handler Mom very proud by getting his Junior Hunter title in less that a year after he “sniffed” his very first bird.  He started earning legs at the Sagehens (two legs) & Marin RC tests in the fall, and finished his title, at the NorCal GRC test in March.  He also earned an “insurance leg” at that double-header.  Ryder’s titling leg was his best ever, pinning all four marks. Ryder then went on to earn his WC Title at the NorCal GRC test in June, 2011.  During that time, Ryder proved that he can do it all by earning his CD and RA titles.   Like Patti, we’re very proud of what this boy (and what this team) have accomplished!

“Ryman & Ardith – New JH, New WCX!”

Fern Hill Sunrise at the Ryman JH WCX— “Ryman” — Golden Retriever Male — O/H Ardith Osborn

At nine months of age, Ryman earned his WC title at the NorCal GRC’s 2010 WC/X test.  He also earned three JH legs last fall.  He had to wait for the spring hunt test season to earn his final JH leg, and earn his Junior Hunter title, but despite the heavy downpour, he did it in style, and pinned all of the marks.  He also earned his WCX at the NorCal GRC’s 2011 test.  This boy has great style, and we look forward to watching this team run senior very soon.

“Indee & Bruce – New SH and WCX!”

Wright’s Mindy’s Independent Girl SH, WCX – “Indee” – Golden Retriever Female – O/H Bruce Hayes

This team’s hard work and persistence have really paid off!  After completing their Junior Hunter title last spring, Bruce & Indee earned their Senior Hunter title in 4 for 4.  Indee also completed her WCX at the NorCal GRC test in June and made her Dad very proud!! Indee is a stylish girl with a lot of go, and we look forward to watching them work towards Master.

“Lucy & Paddy – New WCX Title!”

Lidos I Love Lucy JH WCX –“Lucy” — Standard Poodle Female — O/H Paddy Berne

Lucy and Paddy have shown the retriever community that working poodles aren’t just pretty faces.  Lucy has impressed judges with exceptional marking ability and her happy attitude.

This June Lucy & Paddy earned a Working Certificate Excellent title at the NorCal Golden Retriever Club’s WC/X test.

We’re sure to see Lucy and Paddy at some senior hunter tests soon.

“Storm & Cathy – New WC Title!”

Shannara’s Rav’n Tsunami JH WC Can WC – “Storm” – Black Flatcoat Male – O/H Cathy Lynch

Cathy had a very busy & productive test day at the NorCal Golden Retriever Club’s WC/X test.  In addition to earning Echo’s Working Certificate, she and her handsome lad Storm picked up their WC title, to accompany the one he earned in Canada last year.

Congratulations to this exciting team.  They’re fun to watch and work with, and have come very far.

“Reed & Jake – New JH Title!”

Magicgold’s Indian Summer JH, WC- “Reed” – Golden Retriever Male – O/H Jake Leggett

Reed and Jake continue where they left off last year. They earned their first Junior Hunter leg at the Marin Retriever Club, November 20, 2010. In March of 2011 they earned two more legs at the NorCal Retriever Club, and finished their Junior Hunter title at the Lassen Retriever Club April 9, 2011. In addition, they dropped in to the NorCal GRC WC/WCX test and picked up their WC Title!!

Reed continues to show the desire and drive to be a successful hunting dog. Now the hard work and more fun as they work toward senior hunter.

“Gustav & David – WCX Title!”

Ardenwood Gustav As A Wayfarer SH WCX — “Gustav” — Black Flatcoat Male — O/H: David Kunkle

“Anton & David – WCX Title!”

CH Flyway Farms Te Deum SH WCX— “Anton” — Black Flatcoat Male — O/H: David Kunkle

David found a great way to spend a rainy Sunday afternoon.  He and his two dogs picked up a set of WCX rosettes and titles.  In a relatively short time, David and his two flatcoats have become impressive field competitors.

Gustav & Anton have different styles in the field, but both are exciting to watch, and both can handle challenging tests.  Their training and dedication resulted in two WCX’s to add to their names.  Congratulations, guys!

.

Legs toward titles and other achievements:

“Crash & Renee – Two extra JH legs!”

Reimur’s Juz Crashin’ Thru JH CD RA CGC — “Crash” — Black Labrador Male — O/H: Renee StDenis

This team LOVES the hunt test game.  Although Crash & Renee had earned their Junior Hunter Title last year, they just couldn’t not play the game!  So this spring, they entered two tests – the Hills Ferry Hunting Retriever Club JH test and the NorCal GoldenRetriever Club test.  They came away with two more legs, giving them six JH passes in total.

Congratulations, Crash & Renee!  You make quite a team!

“Cal & Tracey – Three SH legs!”

MACH2 Rivercity’s High Caliber JH WC — “Cal” — Golden Retriever Male — O/H Tracey Mays

Not only is this team nationally ranked in agility (MACH2 stands for Master Agility Champion Times TWO!), but they are well on their way to a Senior Hunter title.  This spring, Cal earned three legs toward that SH title.  Two at the NorCal Golden Retriever double-header in March, and a third at the Rogue Valley RC test in April.  We’re looking forward to bragging about Cal’s fourth leg and title soon!

“Luke & Brooke – First JH leg and WC Title!”

Tinamou’s Cool Hand Luke WC – “Luke” – Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever Male – O/H Brook Francisco

Congratulations to Brook and Luke for their first Junior Hunter leg, earned at their first ever JH test!  It takes a lot of courage to enter that first test, especially if your dog is one of those “other” retriever breeds.   But Luke showed everyone that he can do the job, and do it well!  This team has been working hard, and it shows.   We look forward to bragging about Luke JH soon! Luke also completed his WC Title at the NorCal GRC test in June!!! Way to Go!

Qualified at the 2010 AKC Master Nationals

The 2010 AKC Master National was held in Corning, California.  It was a wonderful opportunity to see some great dogs and well-known handlers in action.  It was even more exciting to be able to root for friends and family!

“Gabby & Cheryl – Completed the Master National!”

Magicgold’s Galloping Gabby MH,WCX ** – “Gabby” – Golden Retriever Female – O/H: Cheryl Baca

CH Flyway Farms Te Deum SH WC — “Anton” — Black Flatcoat Male — O/H: David Kunkle

Anton & David have been on a roll this year!  In the conformation ring, Anton earned both majors and a total of fifteen points needed to become a champion.

But to prove he’s got brains as well as a pretty face, Anton & David completed his Senior Hunter title, earning a leg at the NorCal Golden Retriever Club 2010 Hunt Test, two passes at the Lassen Retriever Club 2010 Double Header Hunt Test and his final leg at the Sagehen’s November 6 test.  Congratulations to both of you!

“Henley & Ardith –  Senior Hunter title!”

Magicgold Hotel California SH WCX CCA – “Henley” – Golden Male – O/H: Ardith Osborn

Spice & Terri – New Senior Hunter Title, JAM in All-Breed Derby!”

SR Chocolate Is The Spice Of Life SH  — “Spice” — Chocolate Lab Female — O/H: Terri Mahallati

2010 was a very busy year for Spice and Terri!  To start the year, Spice earned a Judges’ Award of Merit at the San Jose Retriever Club 2010 Field Trial.  This was Spice’s one and only Derby.  She also earned a third place at the Hills Ferry Retriever Club’s Open Level Super Single series.  At the young age of two, Spice earned her Senior Hunter title, earning legs at the Hills Ferry HRC test, the Marin Retriever Club double-header (two passes), and the Sierra Nevada Retriever Club tests.  She also earned her NAHRA Started title.  During their “spare time”, Spice & Terri also compete in Agility.  We look forward to hearing about their successes in that sport, as well as watching their progress toward Master.

“Windy & Cathy – New Junior Hunter Title”

Magicgold Wind In The Willows – “Windy” – Golden Female – O/H: Cathy Colley

We received this note from Cathy – “Well, Windy got her Junior title, and I am bursting at the seams proud of her!  She finished her JH title at the Junior Stake double header at the LRCSC Hunt Tests at Chino Hills, CA.  Windy made her (very green!) owner/handler proud by pinning her marks and pushing though very difficult lines over multiple cover changes and in difficult weather.  Prado Dog Training Field was inundated by water for months, and the judges got really creative in planning these tests.  Now I am totally hooked on Field, and will be moving on to Senior with Cheryl’s blessing.  I am so grateful for this wonderful little dog!”

“Jade & Suzanne – New SH Title!”

Magicgold’s Orient Express CD SH WCX— “Jade” — Golden Retriever Female — O/H: Suzanne Mikolajcik

.
.
.

“Delilah & Xan – New WC Title!”

Flyway Farms Tears from Laughter JH WC — “Delilah” — Black Flatcoat Female — O/H: Alexandra Latta

If you look in the Canine Dictionary under “WonderWoman”, you might just see Delilah’s photo.  This year at the FCRSA National Specialty in Auburn, Indiana, Delilah picked up her Working Certificate, and also won the FCRSA Unsteady Singles Competition in a very competitive run-off.  And she accomplished this while expecting her first litter.  Delilah bounced back from pregnancy, and is currently hunting pheasants and training for her Senior Hunter title.
.

.

“TJ & Tim – Two JH legs!

Rockyhill’s Fire Truck Second Alarm — “TJ” — Liver Flatcoat Male – O/H Tim Byrne

Here are two guys that have come a long way in a very short time.  Tim is on the road quite a bit, and yet he and TJ haven’t let that get in the way of some solid training and talent for the field.  In one weekend, the Sagehens Retriever Club’s double-header, TJ and Tim earned two Junior Hunter legs, putting them half-way to their JH title.  We expect to hear all sorts of stories about their pheasant-hunting adventures during the winter, and expect their JH title to come easily in the spring test season.

“Zeke & Jennifer – New JH leg!”

Otterbrook’s Ezekiel JH — “Zeke” — Golden Retriever Male — O/H: Jennifer Dill

We knew that Jennifer & Zeke wouldn’t want to sit in the gallery to watch other dogs play the game.  While Zeke completed his Junior Hunter title last year, they earned a delayed insurance leg at the Redwood Empire Retriever Club’s summer Junior test in Loleta, California.  We hope to see this team running Senior soon!

“Sophie & Harvey – New JH leg!”

CH. Bertshire Black Rhian JH – “Sophie” – Black Flat Coat Female – O: Harvey Riggs  H:  Pam Morris

Like Zeke, Sophie earned her Junior Hunter title in 2009, but didn’t want to sit by and watch all the other dogs have fun without participating.  Sophie earned another Junior Hunter leg at the NorCal Golden Retriever Spring Hunt Test, this time handled by Pam Morris, daughter of Sophie’s owner & usual handler, Harvey Riggs.

.

“Layla & Xan – New MH leg!

Ch. Rockyhill’s Western Wishes SH WCX – “Layla”- Black Flatcoat Female – O/H: Xan Latta

Not to be outdone by the youngsters in Xan Latta’s XanVan, Layla proved that she knew what to do in Master, and earned her first MH leg at the Flat-Coated Retriever Society of America’s National Specialty Hunt Test in Auburn, Indiana.  She then showed those young flatcoats that she wasn’t only a good worker, but a super-star on the conformation runway by winning the Field Trial Bitch class at the show.

“Boy Wonder & Xan — New JH Title & Steady Singles JAM!”

Flyway Farms Boom Boom Pow JH WC — “Boy Wonder” — Black Flat-coated Retriever Male – O/H Xan Latta

We can only imagine the adventurous road trip that Xan and her crew experienced on their way to the FCRSA National Specialty and pre-specialty training Auburn, Indiana & in other areas in the midwest.  Boy Wonder had already turned heads in NorCal, when he earned his Junior Hunter title in four straight passes in less than three weeks.   Those passes were earned at the NorCal Golden Retriever Club’s double-header, and the Lassen Retriever Club’s double-header.  At the FCRSA specialty, Boy Wonder earned a Judges Award of Merit at the Steady Singles competition.

.

“Keltie & Cheryl – New MH legs!”

Well Keltie has certainly had a busy year!  She started the 2010 hunt test season with a Master Hunter leg at the Sierra Nevada Retriever Club spring hunt test.  Then she took some time off to be a mother, delivering four boys and four girls in August. But this girl is a working girl, and after doing a great job of raising her puppies, she got back in the swing of things, earning two Master Hunter legs in the fall hunt test season.  The first pass was at the Sagehens Retriever Club’s test, the second a few weeks later at the Marin Retriever Club test.

.

“Luke & Alan – Three MH legs!”

Chi Luke of Copperidge SH — “Luke” — Golden Retriever Male — O/H Alan Kaber

“Echo & Cathy – First JH leg!”

Coastalight Rip Times Two— “Echo” — Black Flatcoat Female — O/H Cathy Lynch

Here’s another young team that is starting  to figure out the game.  Echo has had a shortened training season, but is very much in love with the hunt test game.  She’s also well known for flushing wild pheasants while on her way to marks.  But even though those wild birds are appealing, she does come back with her bumper or training bird.  Echo picked up her first JH leg at the Sagehens Retriever Club’s November hunt test.  She also picked up two Canadian CD qualifying legs while attending the FCRSC Specialty.  We expect to see Echo & Cathy do well in the 2011 spring tests.  This little girl has talent.

“Jake & Reed – New JH leg!

Magicgold’s Indian Summer – “Reed”- Golden Retriever Male – O/H: Jake Leggett

It is such a pleasure to watch this young team hard at work figuring out the hunt test game.  Reed & his owner/handler Jake attended their first hunt test as a “learning experience”, and came away with their first Junior Hunter leg from the Marin Retriever Club.  They did learn – quite a lot – but they also made the other participants and observers smile.   Their enthusiasm and love of the sport was evident.  We expect to see this team excel in the 2011 spring season!

“Ryman & Ardith – Three JH legs!”

Fern Hill Sunrise at the Ryman — “Ryman” — Golden Retriever Male — O/H Ardith Osborn

On October 3, 2009, in Monroe, Washington, Magicgold’s Orient Express, “Jade,” earned both her WC and WCX titles.  The test was hosted by Evergreen GRC at Dr. Greenleaf’s farm.  It was a brisk 47-degree morning which gave way to a pleasant afternoon on the water.  The competitors consisted of Goldens, Flatcoats, and one Poodle–it felt just like Cheryl’s training group!  On December 4, 2009, at 20 months of age, Jade earned her third leg and CD Title at the obedience trial in Costa Mesa, California, held by Shoreline DFA of Orange County.  She was awarded two First Place ribbons in Novice B in back-to-back shows.  Her qualifying scores were 197.5 and 195.5.  In the second show of the day, she was in a run-off for High In Trial.  Jade  trains for obedience with Cessie Banfield and Stephanie Gomez and is in training with her breeder Cheryl Baca towards her Senior Hunter in 2010.

Aqueus Dutch Wood Polish JH – “Teak” – Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever – O/H Kathy Gibson

From Kathy – “My little red pocket rocket toller finished her JH going 5 for 5 at 14 months of age, despite her extremely novice handler.  Teak thinks the field is great fun and ran every mark with great exuberance – once to the point of going head-over-kettle on her way to the flyer.  It did take a village to get Teak ready for the field.  Huge thanks go to Debbie Chun and Tracey Mays who faithfully ran her in group while “mom” went to work.  And of course, the biggest thanks to Cheryl for believing that a little 30 pound dog could run with the big dawgs.

“Boy Wonder & Xan — New WC Title!”

Flyway Farms Boom Boom Pow WC — “Boy Wonder” — Black Flat-coated Retriever Male – O/H Xan Latta

Talk about over-achievers!  At just six months of age, Boy Wonder passed the Great Western Flat-coated Retriever WC test at Prado, CA.  He certainly lives up to his name!

“Joe & Pam – New WCX title!”

Brookestone’s Blackbeard JH WCX — “Joe” — Black Flatcoat Male — O/H Pam Morris

Pam describes their training and event experience –  “Joey worked hard training for the WCX.  With my busy work schedule it was very difficult to find enough training time.  I was very lucky that Dad would take Joey to group sessions, and Cheryl and Tracey Mays would run him.  (Not sure how Cal felt about that!).  It definitely took a village to help get that boy ready, and on a wing and a prayer, he showed up the morning of the test like he was a professional.  Very different test situations than we had trained for, but Joe surpassed all hopes and quite stylishly passed the WCX.  Special thanks to Dad, Cheryl, Tracey, Suzanne, and Charlotte!”  We are told that Joe was spectacular, stepped on all land marks, had great line manners and did wonderful work on the water.

“Sophie & Harvey – New WCX title!”

CH. Bertshire Black Rhian JH WCX– “Sophie” – Black Flat Coat Female – O/H: Harvey Riggs

What a pleasure it has been to watch Sophie & Harvey work toward their first field title.  Harvey took the winter off, and it was wonderful to get to watch the celebration when Sophie picked up her fourth Junior Hunter leg at the Hills Ferry HRC Hunt Test.  Harvey and Pam had huge smiles as Sophie delivered her fourth bird of the day to hand.   Congratulations!

“Joe & Pam – New JH title!”

Brookestone’s Blackbeard JH WC — “Joe” — Black Flatcoat Male — O/H Pam Morris

joePam had good reason to smile at the NorCal Golden Retriever Club Hunt Test.  Her father’s dog Sophie earned her JH title, and Pam’s Joe wanted to bring home one of those cool rosettes, and a Junior Hunter title, too.  And that’s just what he did.  Joe and Pam have become a great working team, and we look forward to seeing them compete in higher levels soon.

“Oliver & Pam – New JH title!”

Ch Wind Dancer’s Dare To Dream JHWC — “Oliver” — Liver Flatcoat Male — O/H Pam Morris

ollieThere’s something about watching liver flatcoats in the field.  Oliver & Pam had a large group of supporters in the gallery when they earned their fourth Junior Hunter leg at the Marin Retriever Club Hunt Test.  That brown dog knew he had done something special for Pam, because Pam had a huge grin on her face.  Ollie had picked up legs two and three earlier in the spring at the NorCal GRC Hunt Test and the Monterey Bay HRC Hunt Test.

“Ember & Jean – New WC title!”

“Sunbeam’s Wildfire WC — “Ember” — Golden Retriever Female — O/H Jean Mott

“Gabby & Cheryl – Field Trial Qualifying JAM!”

Magicgold’s Galloping Gabby MH,WCX ** – “Gabby” – Golden Retriever Female – O/H: Cheryl Baca

gabbyGabby was getting used to being the star career girl while the other two girls finished their motherly duties and got back into shape.  So she was horrified when Blaze got herself a Field Trial Qualifying JAM.  Well if Blaze could get something that pleased Cheryl so much, Gabby was going to get one too.  And she did just that at the Sierra Nevada Retriever Club’s Spring Field Trial.

.

“Keltie & Cheryl – New MH title and Field Trial Qualifying JAM!”

SR. Magicgold’s Celtic Causeway MH,WCX,** – “Keltie”  – Golden Retriever Female – O/H: Cheryl Baca

keltieNow this just wouldn’t do.  Keltie was not going to be the only adult golden in the family without one of those fancy rosettes with the JAM printed on it.  So she set off to get one.  But before she did that, Keltie & Cheryl earned their last two Master Hunter legs at the Monterey Bay HRC Hunt Test & the Hills Ferry HRC Hunt Test, earning Keltie’s MH.  Then, Keltie went hunting for her JAM and found it at the San Jose Retriever Club’s Triple DQ.  Not being one to be satisfied with that task, she earned another Master Hunter pass at the Marin Retriever Club Hunt Test.

“Arson & Diane – Four Junior Hunter passes!”

Heads Up Radiant Energy JH – “Arson” –  Golden Retriever Male – O/H Diane Glassmeyer

arsonArson & Diane got through Junior so quickly, that they wanted to do it again.  It’s unfortunate that one can’t get bonus points for extra legs, because this pair work so beautifully together that we could just keep watching them work.  They earned their bonus passes at the Monterey Bay HRC test, the Hills Ferry HRC test, the NorCal Golden Retriever Club Hunt Test & the Lassen Retriever Club test.  We’re sure to see them in Senior soon.

“Raleigh & Charlotte – Three Junior Hunter passes!”

Trumpet’s Hare’s Ear – “Raleigh” – Golden Retriever Male – O/H Charlotte Gaynor

This baby dog is turning heads.  He earned his first Junior Hunter leg at the young age of nine months and one day at the Hills Ferry Hunting Retriever Club’s Hunt Test.  Two months later, he earned his second and third legs at the Marin Retriever Club’s double-header.  We are certain to see this youngster showing the big dogs how it’s done in Senior in the very near future.

“Grace & Jeanne – new JH title!”

CH Topwater Cinderhill Grace JH – “Grace” –  Yellow Labrador Female – O/H Jeanne Collier

“Arson & Diane – new JH title!”

Magicgold’s Galloping Gabby MH,WCX ** – “Gabby” – Golden Retriever Female – O/H: Cheryl Baca

gabby_2Gabby made it clear that she loves being the only gal on the truck.  Her two roommates may be awesome mothers, but Gabby benefited from the training time alone with Cheryl.  Gabby also likes running October tests.  In short order, this dynamic duo earned three Master legs and completed Gabby’s Master Hunter Title.  She also passed five of seven Master tests held since August 1, 2008.  That means that Gabby has qualified for the Master National!  They earned legs at the Sagehens Retriever Club 2008 Fall Hunt Test, the Norcal Golden Retriever Club Fall, and the Labrador Retriever Club of Southern California.  What a team!

“Flyer & Jean – new MH title!”

Legs toward titles:

Topwater Hiddenspring Yuletide – “Decker” – Black Labrador Male – O/H Jeanne Collier

Decker would like to request another fall hunt test.  This fall was over way too soon.  He just needed one more test to earn his Junior Hunter title.  In eight days, this dynamo earned three legs:  Two at the Sagehens Retriever Club 2008 Fall Hunt Test double-header and a third at the Norcal Golden Retriever Club Fall Hunt Test.  Way to go, Jeanne & Decker!

Marquis Tule Fog – “Tule” – Liver Flatcoat Male – O/H Mark Rudden

You’ve got to love those brown dogs!  In three Junior Hunter tests, Mark & Tule earned three Junior Hunter legs.  After taking a break for duck season (where we understand he is performing beautifully), this team plans to return to the hunt test game in the spring for their final Junior leg and the title of Junior Hunter.  We look forward to seeing them in February or March!

Ch MACH Shasta Action Item VCD1 RA OF JH WC — “Memo” — Black Flatcoat Female — O/H Barbara Fowler

memo_mbhrc_08Although they finished their Junior Hunter title in September, Memo and Barb can’t just watch the game.  Memo wants her birds.  They competed in a Junior test at the Sagehens Retriever Club 2008 Fall Hunt Test on October 5, where Memo picked up her fifth leg.  What an awesome team.  We’re looking forward to seeing Memo’s baby brother in Junior soon.

Brookestone’s Blackbeard WC — “Joe” — Black Flatcoat Male — O/H Pam Morris

joeyJoe picked up a Junior Hunter leg in October for a total of three, at the Sagehens Retriever Club 2008 Fall Hunt Test on October 5, and his Conformation Championship at the Del Valle Kennel Club Show in October.  Pam states that she was ” so disappointed they missed that last leg at the NorCal day, a total handler error, and an expensive lesson!  That would have been so cool to title both CH and JH the same month!”  We’re sure that Joey didn’t mind.  It’s a great excuse to keep working in the field with his favorite person.  We’re sure to see Joe with titles on both ends of his name this spring.

Ch Bertschires’s Black Rhian — “Sophie” — Black Flatcoat Female — O/H Harvey Riggs

Sophie and Harvey picked up their third Junior leg at the Norcal Golden Retriever Club Fall Hunt Test.  Harvey had a grin that stretched from ear to ear.  He’s had to take some time off from training this winter, and we bet that he and Sophie are more than anxious to get back in the fields. They’ve got one more Junior leg to go, and we can’t wait to see Harvey and his talented girl back training soon.

Rockyhill’s Funny Cide – “Punch” – Black Flatcoat Male – O/H Shari Hughes

punchShari & Punch took some time off their upland pheasant training to try out the hunt test game, and they were quite successful, earning their first Junior Hunter leg at the Norcal Golden Retriever Club Fall Hunt Test.  Punch will spend the next few months chasing roosters, and we hope to see him back in the hunt test game after pheasant season ends.

CH. Windfall’s McKenzie – “McKenzie” – Black Flatcoat Female – O/H Gina Spadafori

mckWhen we first started working together, McKenzie loved her bumpers.  Now she has decided that birds are much cooler.  In fact, she LOVES  ducks!  Gina & McKenzie are nearly there!  With limited time in the training field, this team earned three of four Junior Hunter legs in October and November.  McKenzie has come a very long way since her introduction to birds in the water, and we expect her fourth leg to come easily.

Ardenwood Gustav As A Wayfarer JH WC — “Gustav” — Black Flatcoat Male — O/H: David Kunkle

gustavDavid & Gustav are half-way to their Senior Hunter title!  These two are such a joy to watch.  This young duo made it look easy, earning their first leg at the  Sagehens Retriever Club 2008 Fall Hunt Test on October 4, and a second leg at the Norcal Golden Retriever Club Fall on October 11.  David also picked up some great things to work on.  We expect this pair to finish their Senior title in short order in the spring.

Shannara’s Rav’n Tsunami – “Storm” – Black Flatcoat Male – O/H Cathy Lynch

stormCongratulations to Storm & Cathy on their first Junior Hunter leg!  What a nice start for this team, and we expect them to have a promising hunt test career.   Storm has learned how to handle birds that stand up and leave the area, and is prepared to deal with difficult terrain and weather challenges.  We look forward to watching them in their next JH test.

Otterbrook’s Ezekiel – “Zeke” – Golden Retriever Male – O/H Jennifer Dill

This team is also new to the hunt test game, and they’ve been training diligently.  Their hard work paid off with two passes at the Golden Retriever Club of Greater Los Angeles Hunt Test Double header!  This was not an easy venue, quite different than the places where they usually train, but they aced both tests, and are now half-way to their Junior Hunter title.  We look forward to bragging about their upcoming success and new JH title soon.

Flyway Farms Tears from Laughter – “Delilah” – Black Flatcoat Female – O/H Xan Latta

delilahWhat can we say about this puppy, except that she’s a carbon copy of her mother Layla, with oodles of energy and drive.  She proved that her young age wasn’t an issue, and successfully completed her first Junior Hunter leg at the Golden Retriever Club of Greater Los Angeles Hunt Test.  A grand achievement for an eight-month old flatcoat puppy.  She’s currently pushing up birds at the local pheasant club, and training for the spring tests.

Coarsegold’s Flaming Red Zinger CD MH WCX — “Zinger” — Golden Retriever Female — O/H Jean Mott

zingerZinger and Jean had a productive 2008 fall hunt test season, earning two passes in very difficult tests.  Their first MH pass was earned at the  Sagehens Retriever Club 2008 Fall Hunt Test, followed the next week by a second pass at the Norcal Golden Retriever Club Fall Hunt Test.  Zinger has passed nineteen Master Hunter tests.  Two of those legs count toward qualifying for the 2009 Master National.  Good luck, girls.  We hope to see you there!

“Charlotte & Rainbow new WC title!”

Trumpet’s Ultimate Caddis WC CGC – “Rainbow” – Golden Female – O/H: Charlotte Gaynor

Born March 13, 2007, Rainbow earned her WC at the NorCal GRC WC/WCX test held at Denverton on June 7, 2008. Bred, owned and handled by Charlotte, Rainbow owes her early successes to Cheryl’s training and coaching Charlotte, and to her mother, Ritzi who whelped 9 pups the day before!

“Ardith & Henley new WCX!”

Magicgold Hotel California JH WCX CCA – “Henley” – Golden Male – O/H: Ardith Osborn

Henley qualified for his WCX at the NorCal GRC WC/WCX on June 7, 2008.  He qualified for his JH in four out of four tries and his WC on the first try.  Although he took two tries to get his WCX, he did so in grand style, proving that Magicgold “men” have the right stuff too.  He is a pleasure to train and a wonderful companion.  Ardith & Henley are both looking forward to moving on to Senior.

“Alan & Luke new JH title!”

Chi Luke of Copperidge JH — “Luke” — Golden Retriever Male — O/H Alan Kabert

“Barbara & Memo new JH title!”

Ch MACH Shasta Action Item VCD1 RA OF JH WC — “Memo” — Black Flatcoat Female — O/H Barbara Fowler

This talented team have another title to add to Memo’s impressive collection.  She picked up her final Junior Hunter leg at the Sacramento Valley Retriever Club’s fall hunt test at CRTA Denverton.  Memo must be close to earning a spot in the FCRSA’s Hall of Fame!  What can’t this team do?

“Tracey & Cal new JH title!”

Rivercity’s High Caliber AX MXJ JH — “Cal” — Golden Retriever Male — O/H Tracey Mays

Tracey & Cal must LOVE Oregon.  In April 2008, they had great success there, earning two JH legs.  They travelled to Glide, Oregon again in June, where they competed in the Umpqua Valley Retriever Club double header hunt test.  Cal showed his stuff again, finishing his JH title on Saturday, and an insurance leg on Sunday!  What a nice weekend!  What a wonderful team.

Legs toward titles:

Brookestone’s Blackbeard WC — “Joe” — Black Flatcoat Male — O/H Pam Morris

Pam and Joe travelled to Glide, Oregon in June to compete in the Umpqua Valley Retriever Club hunt test. On Saturday,  Joe picked up his second Junior Hunter leg — they’re half-way there!  Pam & Joey (& Ollie) have worked very hard this year, and it’s a pleasure to see the progress that these two have made.  We’re sure that they will pick up their last two JH legs in short order.

Blue Ribbon Adventure Shuttle ** SH WCX — “Shuttle” — Golden Retriever Female — O/H Diane Glassmeyer

This team is still turning heads.   Shuttle picked up her first Master Hunter leg shortly after she turned two. Diane & Shuttle’s fall hunt test season is off to a good start – they picked up Shuttle’s second MH leg at the Sacramento Valley Retriever Club hunt test.

Ch Ardenwood As Time Goes By JH WCX — “Zip(!!!) — Liver Flatcoat Male — O/H Joe Skorupa

Zip(!!!) and Joe earned their second Senior Hunter leg, demonstrating that this team knows how to play the game.  Zip(!!!)’s marking continues to earn praise, and their blind work is coming along nicely.  Joe also learned what they need to focus on before their next test.  The water series was quite a learning experience – first a no-bird when the honoring dog broke, then a duck and pick-up dogs running around trucks and holding blinds, including the one that Joe & and Zip(!!!) were occupying.

SR. Magicgold’s Celtic Causeway SH,WCX,** – “Keltie” – O/H: Cheryl Baca – Golden Retriever Female

Keltie was one of 14 dogs to pass the Master test held by Redwood Empire Retriever Club. This was her 2nd Master Pass. Here’s Cheryl’s description of the test:  “After completing the challenging first land water series triple with a land blind she went on to the 2nd series. The 3 in line triple on land was extremely difficult as the long bird went down last. The wind was blowing scent from the first two marks thrown into the dogs noses. Three dogs ran ahead of Keltie. All Master National Qualifiers, and one QAA dog. Each bent in to the middle bird and picked it up despite taking nice initial lines to the long Go bird. This forced the handlers to decide how to take the other  two marks. Having used up the initial line to the Go Bird added in a lot of confusion and basically each dog that did this was handled on two of the three marks. Keltie charged out to the Go Bird and just as she was closing in I saw her turn her head toward the middle bird. Instinctively I blew the whistle and cast her back. She was very good and took my cast picking up the long Go Bird in one whistle was the best any of the dogs had done. She proceeded to take the short bird next and then the middle without handles. A round of Applause bellowed as we finished the series. I asked the Judges if that was good enough. They both said that was the Best Job so far. However, poor Keltie never got that counted toward her final score as they scratched the test after we were done.. Altho’ Keltie continued to awe the Gallery and Judges throughout the test (and me too) I would have to say that the second series that never was, was a truly a Magic moment to have spent with my dog.   She then followed up by picking up her 3rd Master leg in the Prado test which held our first ever Delayed Quad on the water. Never missing a beat, Ms. Keltie shared First Place with four other terrific dogs recently at the NorCal GRC Single series. Including her good friend Zip! The day after she promptly came in to heat. Which disappointingly enough has forced us to scratch from the next 3 tests we entered…”

Magicgold’s Galloping Gabby SH,WCX ** – “Gabby” – O/H: Cheryl Baca-Golden Retriever Female

Gabby earned her first two Master Hunter legs at the Double Header held at Prado a few weeks ago. Cheryl’s comments – “She was a Pistol. Never missing a mark and her blinds were some of the best she has done. Including the one between the tree branches in the water. Gabby ran her first Qual at Denverton Road a few weeks ago and made it to the 3rd Series. I was especially proud of her marking on the first series as she was one of only nine dogs who did not have to handle on the 3 in line triple. Altho’ her water blind was probably the stinkiest I have ever seen her do!”
