Titles

• Spiritlodge Sporting Chance JH, WC – “Sport” – O/H: Christine Hsu – Golden Female

“Sport” went to the National Specialty and qualified for her WC title amongst other things. She also placed First in Novice Bitch in Conformation. Along with qualifying as a Triathalon Golden based on the GRCA’s requirements. WOW!!! Way to GO Sporty!!!! Congrats to You!

• Trumpet’s Elk Hair Caddis JH – “Radcliffe” – CoOwner/H: Charlotte Gaynor – Golden Retriever Male

“Radcliffe” completed his Junior Hunter title at the Sacramento Valley Retriever Club Test held 9/28/2007. For those of us who know “Radcliffe” there isn’t a sweeter person in hairy clothing to come by. He also enjoys his birds very much. Which has helped him through his tests despite very limited amount of training. Bred by Charlotte and co-owned “Radcliffe” has a very nice family who borrowed him to Charlotte to train whenever possible,to reach this goal of JH. Radcliffe intends to enjoy lots of R & R now with his family. Congratulations to you Both!!

• Rockyhill’s Roc’s Red Glare JH – “FireTruck” – O/H: Xan Latta – Liver Flat Coat Male

“Firetruck” roared out like his name implies and picked up his JH Title like a “Man On A Mission”. Travelling from the Sierra Nevadas, to Oroville and Southern California along the way. Titling in Southern Cal at the Inland Valley Retriever Club test 9/22/2007. With limited training while studying for the Bar Exam they still managed to squeeze in time to pick up those four orange ribbons. Xan has much to be happy about. “Firetruck” is proving to be all that she has hoped for. Their next goal is Senior Hunter and already working on handling basics and multiples is going very nicely. Congratulations!!!!

• Ch. Rockyhill’s Western Wishes JH – “Leila”- O/H: Xan Latta – Black Flat Coat Female

“Leila” the speed demon, raced through her JH Title with style and attitude to die for. Finishing at the Inland Valley Retriever Club HT on 9/22/2007. This little black flat coat bitch has surpassed all expectations in her ability to mark and learn new things. Always in tune with working with Xan. They are planning to go on into Senior Hunter. “Leila” shows great promise, already doing multiples, and basic handling nicely, she is a very fun girl to work with. Good Job!!!

• Int. CH Hyegold Midsumr Knights Dream, CDX,TDX,RE,JH,WC,VCX – “Finn” – O/h: Suzanne Bria – Golden Retriever Male

“Finn” completed his JH Title at the NorCal Golden Retriever Club Hunt Test 9/8/2007. How very fitting he finished his title at our Club’s Annual Hunt Test! In addition, “Finn” also passed his WC at the National Specialty (he is now a double qualifier of the WC Title!). “Finn” came to me some time ago. He showed he was able to mark very well, (although we had two types of marking “Finn” showed me he enjoyed, one of which, we made every effort to train him away froM!!!), and he loved the water. “Finn” has a high trainability factor that helps him to do anything he is asked to do once he understands what it is you want. He has been a very fun dog to work with because of this. Suzanne on the other hand (as do many of us) had some issues with trainability that I had to overcome. However, safe to say, Suzanne has come a long way in a short amount of time in field with “Finn”. Her handling skills have improved 100%. I do hope they will choose to go on. Congratulations to you both!!!

• Ch. Starworker’s Dealer’s Choice JH – “Casino”- O: Keli and David Martin H:David Martin – Black Flat Coat Male

“Casino” qualified for his fourth Junior Hunter leg at the Sac Valley Hunt Test on September 28th. I know both Keli and David are very happy “Casino” finished his JH. Congratualtions To You Both!!!

• Windfall’s Not From Texas JH – “Julia” -O: Keli Martin and Mary Young H:Keli Martin- Black Flat Coat Female

“Julia” finished her Junior Hunter title at the Sac Valley HT on 9/28/2007. She picked up her 3rd leg at the NorCal Retriever Club Hunt Test on 9/8/2007. This young dog is booming them out! Congratulations to you!

• Blue Ribbon Adventure Shuttle SH,WCX ** “Shuttle” – O/H: Diane Glassmeyer – Golden Retriever Female

Not even two years old and “Shuttle” has earned her Senior Hunter title! Finishing her title at the Sacramento Valley Retriever Club HT on 9/29/2007. Having just returned from the National Specialty where she earned her WC and WCX titles she left no stone unturned in completing her SH very nicely. Hunting Season starts on Oct. 20th and Diane and “Shuttle” have big plans to go Hunting! I am sure they will be both have a wonderful time! Congratulations to you Both! You are certainly an amazing pair!!!! hope to see you in Master in Spring!

• SR. Magicgold’s Celtic Causeway SH,WCX,** – “Keltie” – O/H: Cheryl Baca – Golden Retriever Female

“Keltie” completed her Senior Hunter title at the NorCal GRC HT. She did a nice job and I was very proud of her. I put “Keltie” in her first Master Hunter test at Sac Valley Retriever Club test on 9/28/2007 and she got her first Master Hunter leg. She was a very good girl! We will continue to train toward Master and Qualifying field Trials…

• Sunbeam’s Leap Of Faith SH,WCX – “Flyer” O/H: Jean Mott – Golden Retriever Female

“Flyer” Completed her Senior Hunter Title at the Sagehen’s Hunt Test held on 10/6/2007. “Flyer” did some very nice work on her 5th leg for Senior. Slamming her marks and handling beautifully through her blinds. “Flyer” has been on the rampage picking up her 3rd SH leg at NorCal HT and her 4th leg at Sac Valley HT in September.Congratulations to you both. See you in Master soon!!!

• Magicgold’s Galloping Gabby SH,WCX ** – “Gabby” – O/H: Cheryl Baca-Golden Retriever Female

“Gabby” galloped through her last three legs of Senior without too much trouble. She did have her moments tho!!! Where I had to just realize this is “Gabby” and that’s the way it is! Earning her title at the Sagehens HT. Picking up the 2nd and 3rd legs at the Nor Cal Ht and Sac Valley. Now on to Master and Quals!!

• Shyan’s Sunsuite Gaelic Dance UD,SH,AX,AXJ,WCX – “Musette” – O/H: Debbie Tandoc – Golden Retriever Female

“Musette” earned her first Master Hunter leg at the NorCal GRC Hunt Test 9/8/2007. It was a challenging test and “Musette” and Debbie played good team work throughout. Hearty Congratulations to you Both!!! “Musette” is currently working in obedience but will be coming back to finish her Master in due time.

• Topwater Hidden Covenant JH – “Covy” – O/H: Jeanne Collier – Yellow Labrador

“Covey” picked up her first Senior Hunter leg at the Sagehen’s Retriever Club Test 10/6/2007. She and Jeanne did a beautiful job on the marks and blinds alike. Yippee!!!! Good Job!

• Coarsegold’s Flaming Red Zinger CD,MH,WCX – “Zinger” – O/H: Jean Mott – Golden Retriever Female

“Zinger” was happy to be out running Master tests after sending her children off to thier new homes. Proving she still has what it takes she has passed both Master tests she has been entered in. NorCal and Sac Valley were very succesfull for her and Jean. Welcome Back Zinger!!!

Titles

CH. Pikkinkoa’s Beach Bonfire CGC, WC – “Sparky” – O/H: Alyssa Danford – Novia Scotia Duck Toller – Male

Alyssa and “Sparky” took a trip to Canadian Toller National Specialty in July. They both have reason to be very proud of themselves. In a field of 22 Tollers entered in the WC, only 6 passed. “Sparky” was one of those six to earn his WC Title. Alyssa writes: “Almost all of the dogs that went before us didn’t go to the bird but instead went out and wandered around and took many pitt stops out in the field. “Sparky” marked each bird PERFECTLY and didn’t stop and went straight out and straight in with great SPEED.” His water work was spectacular and he delivered to hand on each series.The Judges told Alyssa what a good job marking and staying focused “Sparky” did! After the test, folks gathered around Alyssa and “Sparky” to find out more about him. Alison Strang was there who wrote the book on Tollers and is a well known breeder. She said it was one of the best jobs she’d seen of a toller in field WC. WOW!!! Talk about being recognized. “Sparky” continued to be succesful in the conformation ring being shown by Alyssa and his breeder and taking 3rd Place both days he showed in breed. Amongst tough International competition. “Sparky” is an awesome retriever and is exciting to watch. His birdiness and drive is undeniably a testament to his natural instinct. His trainability and team work with Alyssa is a wonderful sight to behold. They plan to go on and train in field for his Junior Hunter title now. Congratulations to you both. I am very proud of you!!!

Oriana Vhat A Card Am.CD, WC, JH, CGC, CCA, Can. CD, WCI – “Trumper” – O/H: Barbara Brinkerhoff – Golden Male

“Trumper” and Barbara also took a trip up to Canada in July, and came back with their WCI and CD Titles. Barbara called me to tell me the good news. “Trumper” received compliments from the Judges at the WCI test. Passing the first time, “Trumper” had been entered twice. Barbara decided to give the WCX a try instead of rerunning the WCI test. The Canadian WCX does include a blind too. Despite not passing the test Barbara was well pleased with the marks “Trumper” did and he even (despite only just starting to train for handling) did take the back command on the blind but was not quite ready for the handling part. “Trumper” is currently working toward his Senior Hunter, WCX and CDX Titles. Congratulations to you Both! Good Job!!!

Legs Toward Titles

Intl-CH Hyegold Midsumr Knights Dream CDX, RE, TDX, WC, VC, CCA, CGC, ASCA – TD (AKC pointed) – “Finn” – O : Suzanne Bria & Christine Hsu – H: Suzanne Bria- Golden Male

“Finn” and Suzanne went to Gervais, Oregon and completed their 3rd JH leg at the Salem Retriever Clubs Hunt test on 7/22/2007. Suzanne said despite her having problems focusing due to the excessive heat and humidity “Finn” was able to perform flawlessly. It did turn out to be a very trying day for both of them as an accidental shooting of one of the gunners caused an almost 3 hour delay. The shooting occured while Suzanne and Finn were waiting for the live flier duck to be shot on the water series. According to Suzanne the gunners from the live flier station were so focused on shooting the duck that as the bird flew up and outward they shot the gunner at the dead bird station in the face. I can only imagine how scarey it all was. All I can think is how important it is at these tests to adhere to the Hunters Safety course policy. Don’t shoot if there is any chance of hitting a person!! It’s not worth it! Congratulations to both of you! Let’s go out and get that JH Title soon. Finn is currently in field training working on his WCX and Senior Hunter title. This boy has lots of trainability and drive.

TITLES

” Sport and Christine JH Title !!!!”

Spiritlodge Sporting Chance JH – “Sport” – O/H:Christine Hsu – Golden Retriever Female

I am thrilled to bits for Christine and “Sporty” finishing their JH title at the Umpqua Valley Retriever Club Double Header held in early June. Passing both days with terrific style both on land and water. It seems like yesterday when Christine and Sport came to me for the first time. Sport immediately let me know she Loved Birds and retrieving. All we had to do was add some polish to the handler and dog and they were off to the Hunt Tests. Huge Congrats to you. I am super proud of them both. Neither Christine or Sport lack drive, or the ability to learn. They are now preparing for Senior.

Ardenwood’s As Time Goes By JH, WC – “Zip” – O/H: Joe and Patti Skorupa- Liver Flat Coat Male

“Zip” and Patti earned their WC Title at the Flat Coat Retriever Society’s National Speciality on June 8, 2007. In addition to passing his WC first time out “Zip” Placed 4th in the Unsteady singles. Joe writes ” As the second youngest dog entered, Zip (!!!) finished 4th in Unsteady Singles with a spectacular 5th mark (water through cat tails). A slightly better third land fall and more experience with lily pads and he might have won. He was impressive. Lots of praise from the Judges too! Huge Congratulations!

SR Magicgold’s Celtic Causeway JH, WCX, ** – “Keltie” – O/H: Cheryl Baca – Golden Retriever Female

“Keltie” completed her WCX title at the NorCal Golden Retriever WC/WCX Test. Held June 2nd, 2007 at Hightest Retrievers Training grounds in Oroville. The Judges were very complimentary and we had a lot of fun with our golden friends.

“Flyer” completed her WCX title at the NorCal Golden Retriever. “Flyer performed beautifully on land and water. The Judges had lots of nice things to say about her. Congratulations to you both. Good Job!

Mt. Meadow This Just In UDX, JH, WCX – “Terra” – O:Sue Stauffer and Kathy Moore- H:Sue Stauffer – Golden Retriever Female

“Terra” completed her WCX in fine style. Sue shared with me before the test that she fully intended to come back next year if they didn’t pass this test. I am happy to say she won’t need to come back next year. Unless she gets a puppy? Congratulations! I am very happy for you both.

“Gabby” successfully completed her WCX title, at the NorCal test. Having been in rehab for a delivery issue I was pleased to see progress has been made. With only one delivery being Iffy. But, after moments of angst she realized I meant Drop It and did! PHEW!

“Higgins” and Kathy completed his WC at the NorCal Test. Congratulations to you both! Higgin’s will be working toward his UD along with continuing on with his Field work. “Higgin’s” now sports a CCA and VCX at the end of his name. Congratulations to YOU!!

Blue Ribbon Adventure Shuttle JH ** – “Shuttle” – O/H: Diane Glassmeyer – Golden Retriever Female

“Shuttle” picked up her first two SH legs first time out at the Umpqua Valley Retreiver Clubs double header held in early June. “Shuttle” at 15 months old is proving to be all I expected. Diane as a first time Handler/Trainer has surpassed herself in managing her full time job and training schedule with “Shuttle” as they continue forward in the Field. Good girl “Shuttle Butt”!!! Good Job Diane!!!

Ardenwood’s As Time Goes By JH, WC – “Zip” – O/H: Pttie and Joe Skorupa – Liver Flat Coat Male

“Zip” and Joe received 4th place in the Unsteady singles at the the Flat Coat Society’s National Specialty held early June. In addition to this placement, “Zip” also received 4th Place in the Puppy Sweepstakes Conformation Class. WOW!!!

DERBY JAMS

SR Magicgold’s Celtic Causeway JH, WC ** “Keltie” O/H: Cheryl Baca -Golden Retriever Female

“Keltie” picked up her first JAM in a Derby held at San Jose R.C. Field Trial, on 5/12/2007 at Denverton Road. She held on and managed to complete a total of six series. Normally there is four. However, along the way one test set up was scratched due to several dogs being unable to find the birds. Keltie was one of three dogs who ran that test that found the birds. Ugly as it was. The Judges set up 4 water series and 2 land series and I was very proud of Keltie’s efforts throughout. If a golden JAMS or Places in Derby they carry two stars at the end of their name to show this accomplishment. I am very happy both girls did so well in their very short Derby careers and carry two stars. Now we are back in to Hunt Tests and possibly Quals as time moves on.

Blue Ribbon Adventure Shuttle JH ** “Shuttle” O/H: Diane Glassmeyer – Golden Retriever Female

“Shuttle” and Diane went to their very first Derby held by NorCal , 5/20/2007 held at Denverton Road. It is with great pride I announce little “Shuttle” showed everyone there how the golden girls can and do well up against the Professionally trained dogs running. Completing all the series and receiving a JAM for her good work! Yippee! When I say Professionally trained I mean dogs who have been in kennels since forcing and go home occasionally. “Shuttle” enjoys her home life and working together with Diane. Early on Diane and I discussed her options with “Shuttle’s” field career. One of the topics that was discussed was sending “Shuttle” to a Pro for in-house training. We discussed the Pros (no pun intended) and the cons of doing this. I am glad Diane opted to continue working with “Shuttle” herself. This is quite a team. “Shuttle” snuggles at night with Diane, and works for her with focus and a willingness that is a wonderful sight to behold. Congratulations to you both. Diane continues to work hard with “Shuttle, practising drills and marks almost daily.  Diane’s hard work and “Shuttle’s ” talent and trainability  are paying off!

NEW TITLES

 DD’s Here to Stay TD, SH, OA, OAJ, RN, WCX “Keeper” O:Chris Hempel and Maureen Degnan H: Chris Hempel – Golden Retriever Male

“Keeper” and Chris finished their Senior Hunter Title on May 4th, 2007 at the Sierra Nevada Retriever Club Hunt Test. The test was held in Fallon, Nevada. “Keeper” was entered in the Senior tests both days. He did his Mom’s and Me proud. Running beautifully, receiving applause from all of us in the Gallery. He earned his Title and an extra leg with lots of style. Chris did an exceptional job of Handling “Keeper”. I cannot express how supremely proud of them I am. These two have journeyed with me through thick and thin to attain the title. “Keeper” is my first client dog to attain a Senior Hunter title. Both Chris and Keeper will be moving forward in to Master in the not to distant future.

Vermillion Skylard Fiery Spice CD, NAP, NJP, RN, BRT, WC “Chili” O/H: Kathy Gibson – Novia Scotia Duck Toller – Male

“Chili” and Kathy took the trip down South to the Toller Specialty too. The test “Chili” and Kathy entered was the Basic Retriever Test (BRT) for tollers. “Chili” passed with flying colors. Which then made it easy to decide they were ready to try the WC test for tollers at the NorCal GRC WC/WCX test held June 2nd, 2007. I am proud to announce they passed the WC with great style. When I met “Chili” and Kathy in 2006 he was a young puppy. He showed a great deal of promise. We spent our time introducing “Chili” to birds, retrieving and marking concepts in the earl days. However, we felt at some point he needed a break from field to mature out and off they went to pick up some obedience and agility titles. Apparently the time away from field did no damage. Since “Chili” has matured his return to field work shows nothing but positive results. Congratulations to you both on your recent success. A cute sideline at the NorCal WC/WCX awards ceremony Kathy and “Chili” sat in front of me. Each time I applauded “Chili” would turn around and look at me and pull toward me. I almost thought he would pull Kathy right off her chair. Tollers as a breed are known for their stand offish personality if you are not in their Pack. I felt very honored “Chili” still felt I am a member of his elite pack after time away from me.

Redrock’s Venture With Me RA, CDX, WC “Venture” – O/H: Linda Tarvey – Novia Scotia Duck Toller – Male

“Venture” and Linda took a trip down South to the Toller Specialty 4/28/2007-4/29/2007, the field events were held at Prado Dog Training Area. “Venture” was entered in the WC both days as an insurance to come home titled. Saturday, temperatures were in the high 80’s. After successfully completing the land series “Venture”headed to the water series. By the time they reached the endless line of holding blinds it was a test to see who wanted to get in the water more. Linda or “Venture”? As required part of the tolling WC test a toller must perform a tolling tests with an object other than a bird at the waters edge prior to doing his retrieve for a mark with ducks. During this process the gunners for the marks are out at their stations. “Venture” was quite appalled that he would have to toll first and insisted on letting Linda know this was not the way he would run this part of the test by circling her in the holding blind several times before commencing on to his tolling 4 times successfully. Nothing says the tollers can’t have an opinion! “Venture” then went on to successfully complete his water marks and receive his title of WC. For good measure “Venture” also completed the next days test. Their plans are to go on and try for a Junior Hunter title next. Congratulations to you both. I am very proud to have helped you accomplish your goals so far.

LEGS TOWARD TITLES

Magicgold Wheels Of Fire SH, CGC,WCX  “Blaze” O/H:Cheryl Baca – Golden Retriever Female

 “Blaze” earned her 3rd Master Hunter leg at the Sierra Nevada Retriever Club Hunt test. Under the infamous Russ and Stacy Reavis team. She gave her all for this leg. I did too! It was so nice to have the teamwork needed at this level and enjoy our victory together!

 “Flyer” living up to her name flew though two Senior Hunter tests picking up two legs toward her title at the recent Sierra Nevada Retriever Club Hunt Tests. This fast stylish little golden worked well with her handler and awed the Judges with her talent and speed.  Congratulations to you both!

SR Magicgold Celtic Causeway JH, WC “Keltie”  O/H: Cheryl Baca – Golden Retriever Female

“Keltie” received a Senior Hunter pass at the recent Sierra Nevada Hunt Test making it a total of 3 Senior Hunter legs to date. Just one more for a title.   “Keltie” and I are embarrassed to admit to some recent failures in Senior that are direct result of focusing on Derby, and forgetting to practise handling drills and blinds regularly. We plan on pulling our socks up now, and buckling down to get that last leg. I share this with all of you to assure you that indeed I fail too. I am human. For those of you who dwell on the failures at tests I can only say DON’T. Most of you have a good idea why you failed. Sometimes stuff happens, sometimes you aren’t putting in the time. You have to decide what needs to be done. If anything.

“Fire Truck” earned his first Junior Hunter leg at the Sierra Nevada Hunt Test and picked up his second Junior Hunter leg at the Marin Retriever Club Test. I am very proud of Fire Truck who came to me some time ago and has developed very nicely with Xan faithfully attending classes and working on training Fire Truck has shown us he can play this game and be succesfull!

CH. Rockyhill’s Western Wishes – “Leila” O/H: Alexander Latta – Black Flat Coat Female

When Xan came to me to help Fire Truck with his  field training I couldn’t help noticing another black dog in her vehicle. I was curious why we weren’t doing both the dogs. Xan explained “Leila” was an agility dog and was probably not a good candidate for field trainng. I asked if we couldn’t just see what she thought before deciding. Xan agreed. It was very apparent “Leila” was a high drive girl who also loved the retrieving game. We decided to include “Leila” in training too. I am very proud to say she also earned her 1st Junior Hunter leg at Sierra Nevada Hunt Test and her second at the Marin Retriever Club Hunt Test.  “Leila” is continuing training and showing a lot of potential to move forward in to Senior. I am glad I am a nosey person and asked to try out “Leila” in field too. She is having a ball! Xan gets to handle two dogs in tests which she is managing beautifully.

“Sporty” picked up her second Junior Hunter leg at the Sierra Nevada Retriever Club. I am very happy that “Sporty” shows all the desire and drive she does.  Christine has worked hard to accomplish her goals with “Sporty” and both have come a long way since the first time we met. Congratulations to you both! Looking forward to hearing more good news soon.

Intl-CH Hyegold Midsumr Knights Dream CDX,RE,TDX, CCA,ASCA -TD  “Finn” – O:Suzanne Bria and Christine Hsu – H: Suzanne Bria – Golden Retriever Male

“Finn” and Suzanne took a trip to Puget Sound to visit friends and decided to enter a hunt test held by the Puget Sound Labrador Retriever Club Hunt Test near Seattle. “Finn” scores were 9’s and 10’s across the board and he had an exceptional day earning his first JH leg. He then went on to complete another JH leg at the Marin Retriever Clubs test in Oroville. Hurray! Half way there now! Remembering my first encounter with “Finn”  and Suzanne, it’s only fair to say Suzanne and “Finn” have worked hard at changing old habits, and learning new ones. Safe to say. We’ve come a long way Baby! Thanks to “Finn’s high trainablity level. Congratulations to you both!   Super proud of you!

CH. Starworker’s Dealers Choice – “Casino” O/H: Keli Martin – Black Flat Coat Male

“Casino” earned his third JH leg at the Marin Retriever Club. Keli came to me several months ago asking if I could take a look at “Casino”.  A beautiful male flat coat, with a strong personality. He had got two JH legs some time ago.  Keli wanted to get the last 2 legs and was having difficulty succeeding.  “Casino” just couldn’t seem to mark when we first met. That has changed considerably.  We worked dilligently through different marking drills to help develop “Casino’s” marking. I am proud to say that Keli worked hard at home with her family of throwers, to perfect “Casino’s” marking skills. “Casino” apparently smacked all four marks in the test. Keli is a true testament of working hard with her dog to attain the goals she sets.  Congratulations!!!

Windfall’s Not From Texas –  “Julia” O: Keli Martin & Mary Young H: Keli Martin – Black Flat Coat Female

“Julia” at just 11 months old earned her first JH leg at the Marin Retriever Club Hunt Test. When I first met “Julia” she was a very busy little girl. So busy sometimes she just couldn’t hear her Momma Keli calling her to come. We took some time to teach “Julia” about whistle recalls and collar conditioned to recall on a whistle. Things started moving forward rapidly with Keli finishing up the force fetch part of Julia’s training at home. We continued to meet and work on basic marking concepts and stretching Julia out. It all came togehter beautifully. Keli was a very happy girl when I saw at the Marin test. I couldn’t have been happier for her. She is off to the Flatcoat Specialty where she hopes to pick up more ribbons.

“Shad” and Jeanne have so far earned 3 JH legs toward her title.  She is proving herself as a great little retriever along with being a much loved companion at the Collier Household. Congratulations to you both.

“Covey” and Jeanne completed their Junior Hunter title along with “Henry” and Don at the Lassen Retriever Club Hunt Test. It was rainy weather and despite conditions “Covey” aced her test, coming home with a ribbon for Mom. There’s something about “Singing in The Rain” that comes to me whenever I picture Jeanne and “Covey” going up to receive their ribbon. Hearty Congratulations to You Both! Now on to Senior!

“Zip” and Joe fairly flew through Junior going four for four to his title. At just 13 months old “Zip” is gathering speed in all the arenas his Mom and Dad are working with him in. After completing his title in the recent Oregon Hunt Tests they took time out to pick up another stack of points along with a Major in the breed ring. I know the “WOO HOO!” could be heard from the hills as Patti and Joe made their way home from Oregon. Now it’s on to Senior, Derby and whatever else takes “Zip’s” and Joe’s fancy as they enjoy their journey together.

“Henry” and Don completed their Junior Hunter title at the Lassen Retriever Club Hunt Test in Anderson, California. Held on April 21st, 2007. I was so excited to hear the good news from Don. He told me this was better than the day “Henry” finished his Championship. I can really appreciate how far this team has come. The first day we met and I evaluated “Henry” we both agreed there was work to be done. Don and Henry have consistently attended group, and Privates to attain their goal. “Henry” has been a fun dog to work with. A bit of a charmer he always manages to greet me with a big sloppy dog kiss whenever we meet. Completing his title in fine style. “Henry” plans to continue working in field toward his Senior Hunter, WC and WCX titles. Congratulations to you both. I am very proud of you!

“Blaze” picked up her 2nd Master Hunter leg at the Inland Valley Retriever Hunt Test in Lost Hills, April 21st and 22nd, 2007. The Judges were very complimentary of “Blaze”. Brenda Owens said she loved this little dog. I told her I did too. Thanking her very much for her nice words about “Blazey”. Only having to be handled on her last series of marks made me very proud. In fact, the Judge did tell me that “Blaze” was smarter than me at some point. Which I do concur with. Since when handling her to the middle bird of the water triple on the last series I made the mistake of handling her away from it initially. My depth perception was very bad. Poor “Blaze” was trying to be good about it. However, on my next cast (a come in whistle) she dashed toward the bird with unbelievable speed, before I could blow another whistle to handle her to where I thought the bird was she was picking up the bird. Giving me that look… As tho’ to say “IF YOU DON’T KNOW WHERE IT IS, I DO!” Thank you “Blaze”. you stink in training girl. But you look dam good in tests..

“Keeper” tore up the turf in Oregon on his way through his 2nd and 3rd Senior Hunter legs. While dedicated Mom Maureen stood out in the rain to watch her boy pull off each series. One more for a Title! When I first met “Keeper” and Chris she proposed a Junior Hunter title was all she would want with “Keeper” maybe a WC and WCX too. As time went on it was only obvious this boy was made for the field. When we talked about going on to Senior Chris was working full time as a nurse. The demands on her time were very limiting. However, she kept plugging away with the drills I would set for her. In between she ran “Keep” in Agility and Rally. I was beginning to feel concerned she would turn away from the field because of the work involved in teaching “Keeper” the handling. But, Chris is not a quitter. She and “Keeper” worked hard at night in lit parking lots after work to accomplish the tasks set forth. “Keeper” has told Chris he is going to go on to Master. Since Chris recently retired she has agreed. Each time I see “Keeper” he is so excited to see me. He knows I am the bird lady and he is thrilled his Mom is going to keep doing field with him. Congratulations Chris and “Keeper”!

“Keltie” earned her 2nd Senior Hunter leg at the Inland Valley Retreiver Club test held in Lost Hills. “Keltie” did such a beautiful job on Saturday that the Judge, Wendy Pennington took the time to find out all about where “Keltie” came from breeding wise. Complimenting her on her marking and blind work. On Sunday, Keltie went out on the last series on the honor. Bad dog!#!!

Magicgold’s Galloping Gabby JH, WC ** – Golden Female

“Gabby earned her 1st Senior Hunter leg at the Inland Valley Retreiver Club on Sunday. The sister team played “Good Dog, Bad Dog” over the weekend. “Gabby” managed both her blinds very nicely Her marking was exceptional. However, on Saturday she went out on the land series. Mainly due to the quartering up to the line and then a walk up. Unfortuantely, we have never practised anything of this nature. “Gabby” being “Gabby” was so wound up by the time we started the walk up that she broke on the flier. Unfortunately neither one of us could figure out where it was. Until it was too late. My marking could do with some improvement I think! Oh Well! More training and time needed.

Spiritlodge Sporting Chance – Golden Female

“Sport” and Christine picked up their first Junior Hunter leg at the Oregon Hunt Tests in April. From what Christine said it was a test well suited to “Sport” and her training with me. The concepts were areas we have covered in training and “Sporty” didn’t put a paw wrong. Slam dunking all her marks and delivering beautifully to hand. It was a wonderful beginning to Christine and “Sport’s” field journey. I’m sure we will be hearing more good news from Christine in the future. Congratulations to a job well done! If you ever get a chance to watch this team work you will see they do make a beautiful picture together.

“Shadow” was a very good girl at the Lassen Retriever Club Hunt Test and earned her first Junior Hunter leg. “Shadow” just turned a year old and moving forward very nicely. I believe she does not want “Covey” to be the only one bringing home the ribbons in the Collier dog household. Congratulations Jeanne and “Shadow”!

Congratulations to “Covey” and Jeanne for earning their 3rd JH leg at the Hills ferry H.T. “Covey” and Jeanne have joined groups on several occasions. With a long drive from Placerville, and a job Jeanne makes time to get some training in whenever she can. Apparently it’s working nicely for “Covey” too. Once Jeanne retires in June (YIPPEE!)she will be joining group on a more regular basis and I’m sure it will be on to Senior in no time for them both!

SR. Penmars Play It Again, UD, JH, WC Standard Poodle, Male

Penny and “Sam” completed their 4th NAHRA Started leg for his title (S.R.) at the San Joaquin R.C. on March 3rd, 2007. I think the NAHRA folks had a few suprises by the great work the poodles were doing over the weekend. Safe to say. “Poodles Rule!” Certainly the poodles were good representatives of their breed at the test. This is Penny’s second poodle (I think) with field titles. Penny has been very active in field with her poodles for some time. It is a pleasure to have had a chance to work with “Sam” and Penny on group days. Penny is a very hard worker and is always such a nice addition to group. Congratulations Penny and “Sam”!

“Harley” and Paddy have good reason to celebrate their most recent accomplishments at the NAHRA double header event, held by San Joaquin R.C. at the Los Banos Wildlife Refuge. “Harley” earned his 2nd and 3rd Started Retriever legs in fine style! On Sunday, Paddy called me with an update of how things had gone. She started out by telling me how very difficult Sunday’s test was. How a large number of dogs had been dropped early in the day. Including several advanced dogs. That “Harley” had done his best. (Her tone was sounding as tho’ it was not a good day for “Harley” too). She took some time spitting this out. But, eventually let me in to her proudest moments with “Harley” being one of only three (I think) dogs to qualify at the end of the day! The Judges comment was “I have never awarded a poodle a qualifying ribbon! Good Job!”. For some, that would have been an insult. For Paddy and “Harley” it was a Victory of monumental size. When “Harley” and Paddy first came to me they had a number of issues that were holding “Harley” back from being successful in the field. Since “Harley” came in to the sport very late in life (born 6/20/1999), he had a lot of catching up to do. We all worked hard, and methodically at the plan for “Harley” to succeed in field. It is exciting to see all their hard work pay off now. “Harley” is a different dog in the field now. Each time I see him work I am so happy at how much effort, and the up attitude he puts in to his field work! Congratulations to you both. I am so very Proud of you!

For those of you who were at the Hills Ferry Hunt Test with your dogs, pass or no pass, I was extremely proud of all of you for representing your dogs and yourselves so well. .The camaraderie was so evident. I hope that never changes no matter what level your dogs go to.

“Henry” and Don earned their 3rd Junior Hunter leg at Hills Ferry H.T. “Henry” was elated by the live shot flyers, and enjoyed his day with his Dad and friends very much. Apparently “Henry” was caught flirting with “Junior’s” sister “Chevy”. “Henry” is known to be quite a ladies man with the golden girls. He has no problem with the opposite sex of any persuasion. Black, Gold and Liver all look good to him. But he is by far the perfect gentleman with his lady friends. Before we know it “Henry” will have wrapped up his JH. “Henry”and Don are currently working toward WC, WCX, and SH. Drills, Drills and more drills…

“Zip” hadn’t even turned one years old when he earned his 2nd Junior Hunter leg at the Hills Ferry H.T. WOW! Now that’s something you don’t hear of very often in any breed of retriever. Least of all a Flat Coat. Which is not meant as an insult to the breed in any way. As I think I have several very talented flat coats I work with. However, from the start it was pretty evident this boy lives to retrieve. He loves to run hard and swim fast. “Zip” came to me as a puppy. Raw talent and instinct were part of this package. Patti and Joe have worked with me putting all the pieces together. I am thrilled to bits at the outcome. Not only that, “Zip” is already proving himself in the breed ring by picking up a bundle of points toward his CH in very limted showing. Being a breeder I can appreciate how excited they are with their boy. He certainly is proving “Pretty is, as pretty does”. Currently working on basic handling and preparing for Senior and Derby they have lots of good times ahead of them all.

“Keltie” passed her first Senior Hunter test on her first try at the Hills Ferry H.T.. She was one of only a couple of dogs who did not have to be handled on the water double from Hell. She three whistled her land and water blind (also from Hell) and was able to hold tight for the Honor off leash. “Keltie” did me proud. The gallery was kind enough to applaud her work. “Keltie” is my love bunny at home and always tries her best for me in the field. She makes me look good!

Coarsegold’s Flaming Red Zinger MH,CD – Call name – “Zinger”- o/h: Jean Mott – Golden Retriever Female

“Zinger” and Jean earned yet another Master Hunter leg at the Hills Ferry HT. This team hasn’t missed in Master since thier return! “Zinger” and Jean did some outstanding work in Master B. If you ever have a chance to see this team in Master you will see a partnership between handler and dog that is awesome to watch. Each reads the other throughout the series. One day I hope “Blaze” and I will have that same partnership. “Zinger’s” last series in Master was one of the best I saw all day. My last series in Master was one of the worst I saw all day.(gotta be honest, I failed as a handler) But that’s OK. We are still learning together. Congratulations!

Magicgold’s Galloping Gabby JH,WC,** – Call Name – “Gabby” – o/h: Cheryl Baca – Golden Retriever Female

“Gabby” blasted her way through the NorCal Field Trial running Derby for the second time and picked up her second JAM. I was thrilled she was able to get through all the series and be one of only 5 to receive a JAM for her work. “Gabby” simply amazes me when I watch her run and swim these long distance marks. She loves the field trial game a lot. However, her opinion of her first Senior test was not exactly what I had hoped for. She made it all the way through to the water blind, then decided to turn a deaf ear to my handles. Which I decided was not good. In fact, I called her in despite the Judges telling me I could have got her there. I truly believe in “Gabby’s” case I did her a big (expensive) favor. In view of the fact I do not want her to become test wise and start blowing me off on her blinds at tests, eventually getting there and finding a reward for bad behavior. We have more work to do on her handling before we go to Senior tests I think.

Blue Ribbon Adventure Shuttle JH – Owner/Handler – Diane Glassmeyer

At less than a year old “Shuttle” completed her Junior Hunter title at the Monterey Bay Hunt test held at Los Banos.Also picked up 2 NAHRA Started legs at the recent Central Coast Test! I am so proud of both “Shuttle” and Diane for all the hard work they have put in together to attain their JH. When Diane and Shuttle first came to me Diane announced all she needed to do was get a field title to satisfy her agreement with Breeder. After watching “Shuttle” develop her skills it was hard to picture her stopping at a JH. As time moved on, Diane and “Shuttle” have become an awesome team to watch. “Shuttle” is a fast, stylish dog on land and water, terrific marker and very birdy. Exceptionally talented! I look forward to seeing them both reach for the Stars in field as this team has amazing Potential! Good Job!

Charming and Sweet, “Henry” earned his 2nd Junior Hunter leg at the Monterey Bay Hunt Test. Don and “Henry” have so far accomplished 2 NAHRA Started legs and 2 JH legs. Well on their way to titles. It has been a thrill to watch Don and “Henry” learn how to work together as a team .For anyone who has not seen them in action, “Henry” is a phenomenal Marker, birdy and despite challenging his Dad form time to time (as most dogs will) they put out quite a performance at tests! Congratualtions to you both!

Zip, the Brown dog that flies! (Sorry I can’t find his kennel name on anything I have) – Owner/Handler – Joe Skorupa

“Zip” completed his first Junior Hunter leg on his first try, at the Monterey Bay Hunt Test held in Los Banos. I can only tell you not to blink if you watch this dog run. For you will not see him. He is undeniably the fasted flatcoat I have ever seen . His marking, style and birdiness have all the signs of being a phenoma among the West Coast Flatcoats. Good Job to Patti (for all the forcing and training you have done) and Joe for following through and transitioning with “Zip” as his Handler.

“Blaze” earned her first Master Hunter leg at the Monterey Bay Hunt Test. This was our first try. I was very nicely suprised by “Blaze’s” ability to work as a team with me, and meet up to the standard of Master Hunter. She is like “Henry”, turns ON at tests, sometimes not in training for bumpers. Blaze sez she works for BIRDS. Yippee!!

Magicgold’s Galloping Gabby JH, WC – Owner/Handler – Cheryl Baca

“Gabby” and I went to our first Derby last Weekend. Sacramento Valley Retriever Club held their Field Trial at Grizzly Island. Terrain was very tough and the wind blew hard. I could barely see “Gabby” as she got out to retrieve her marks.I was in awe of her courage and drive as she ran with all her body and heart in each retrieve. I hadn’t expected her to get past the first series.However, she hung tough and out of 15 dogs she was one of 8 to get through all 4 series. The Judges were very kind and we were awarded a JAM (Judges Award of Merit). I have to say I have never seen such tough and long marks as these. The rumour is, the Qualifying stake actually had easier marks than the Derby. The dog work was breath taking! I knew there was a reason for “Gabby’s” return to me at 8 months. I’m so glad I kept her.She is so very happy here doing her work in the field. She is a handful of a dog I must say. But, she is so worth it!

“Keeper” earned his first Senior Hunter leg at the Monterey Bay Hunt test. This hard running red dog nailed his land double and lined his land blind in the first series. He did an equally stunning performance in the afternoon on the water. I am so terribly proud of Chris and “Keeper” for trusting me to help them accomplish their goals in field. Thank you Chris for working all the drills I recommended at night in the parking lot after you got off work! See dedication,drills and a talented dog all pay off folks! They are an awesome team to watch. Look for him Senior at Hills Ferry! Three to Go!!!! Then on to Master ????
