2013 Spring/Summer Student Accomplishments

2013 has started out to be a very successful year for many of Cheryl’s students. Congratulations to all the handlers and dogs on their achievements!

Spring/Summer 2013 – Titles and Accomplishments Earned:

NEW TITLES:

“Roca & Cheryl – New JH Title”

Roca started out this year’s hunt test season as strong as she ended last year’s and earned three straight passes to finish her Junior Hunter title.  Her first test this year was at the Monterey Bay Hunt Test in Los Banos in February and then her last two passes were at the Marin Retriever Club Hunt Test in Corning in March.  Cheryl is very proud of her ‘baby’ dog.  We’ll be seeing a lot more accomplishments from this team throughout the year.  Congratulations Cheryl and Roca!!!

“Angel & Jean – New JH Title”

Sunbeam’s The Devil Made Me Do It – “Angel” – o/h Jean Mott – Golden Retriever Female

Angel made her hunt test debut by taking a roadtrip to Arizona for the Copper State Hunting Retriever Club’s test in February.  The trip was well worth it for Jean and Angel as they came home with 2 Junior passes!  A few weeks later Angel earned another Junior pass at the Hills Ferry test in Los Banos. The following week Angel earned her title at the Marin Retriever Club test in Corning.  What a great accomplishment for Jean and her ‘baby’ dog to complete her Junior Hunter title before she was even 11 months old!  Congratulations to this talented team!!

“Ali’i & Debbie – New JH Title”

Ali’i made her hunt test debut in February at the Monterey Bay Hunting Retriever Club’s test in Los Banos and earned her first pass.  Debbie and Ali’i returned to Los Banos at the beginning of March for the Hills Ferry test and earned their 2nd JH leg.  They drove up to Corning the following week and did one day of the Marin Retriever Club hunt test and brought home another JH ribbon.  Then at the Norcal Golden Retriever Club test the next weekend, they earned their JH title on Saturday and got an extra leg on Sunday.  Debbie is very proud of her little brown girl.  Congratulations!

“Kodiak & Gail – New JH and WC Titles”

Flyway Farms Thunder on the Mountain – “Kodiak” – o/h Gail Crawford – Flat-Coated Retriever Male

Gail and Kodiak completed their Junior Hunter title this Spring after earning JH passes at the Monterey Bay Hunting Retriever Club test and the Hills Ferry Retriever Club test!  These two weren’t quite finished with their spring competitions, and earned their WC in May at the Norcal Golden Retriever Club’s WC/WCX test.  They are now training for Senior Hunter and will be just as successful there.  Congratulations Gail and Kodiak on your Junior Hunter and Working Certificate titles!!!

“Raven & John – New JH Title”

Bayside Lloyd’s Raven – “Raven” – o/h John Lloyd – Labrador Retriever Male

John and Raven earned their Junior Hunter title going 4 for 4, getting their first 2 passes at the Norcal Golden Retriever Club hunt test in March and then a couple weeks later finishing at the Lassen Retriever Club test at the beginning of April!  This is John’s first time handling a dog in hunt tests and he’s doing a great job with his talented girl.  They are sure to be bringing home more ribbons and titles in the future! Congratulations to this very talented team!!

 

“Tux & Pat – New JH Title”

Pat and Tux qualified in their 1st two HTs at the Sierra Nevada Retriever Club on May 3rd and 5th in Fallon, NV.  A couple weeks later Tux earned his 3rd and 4th passes at the California South Coast Retriever Club hunt test in Lost Hills, CA on May 18th & 19th to complete his Junior Hunter title.  Pat thanks Cheryl for her consistent and diligent training and patience with her and Tux.  Congratulations to this team on their accomplishment and now on to Senior Hunter!!!

“Julep & Xan – New JH Title”

The FCR crew at Flyway Farms has another Junior Hunter in its midst, with Julep earning her JH title at the Labrador Retriever Club of Southern California in April.  Congratulations to Julep and Xan!!  Besides finishing her Junior Hunter title this Spring, Julep started her show career and won two 5-point majors in her first show!

“Shasta & Sue – New SH Title”

Magicgold’s It Has to be Shasta CD WCX SH – “Shasta” – o/h Sue Stauffer – Golden Retriever Female

Sue and Shasta completed their Senior Hunter title at the Monterey Bay Hunt Club test on February 19. To date, Shasta has now passed 8 consecutive Senior tests.  Sue said that the most challenging test was the Hills Ferry test.  One-half of the dogs went out on the land series.  The water series was measured at 150 yards with at least 20 yards of solid tules to go through before getting to the water.  For both the go-bird and the memory bird Shasta somehow made it through all the tules and came out on line and picked up both of her birds with no handles. Sue said that they got a huge cheer and several high fives when they finished.  Ten of the 40 dogs running qualified and almost all of the dogs that did qualify were handled by pros.  Way to do Sue and Shasta!!  Congratulations to this hard working and talented dog and handler team!!!

“Andy & Mimi & David – New SH and WC Titles”

Rockyhill’s Once You Go Black SH WC – “Andy” – o/h Mimi Ruiz & David Taft – Flat-Coated Retriever Male

Mimi, David and Andy had a very busy and successful two months from mid-March to mid-May, earning both Senior Hunter and WC titles!  They earned their first SH pass at the Marin Retriever Club test in Corning in March, then traveled to Anderson in April for the Lassen Retriever Club test where they earned their 2nd SH pass.  Their next road trip was to Fallon, NV for the Sierra Nevada Retriever Club test at the beginning of May.  Once again they came home with a SH ribbon!  They decided to stay home for a week and competed at the Norcal Golden Retriever Club’s WC/WCX test held at Denverton on May 11th, where Andy earned his WC title.  The next week they were on the road again and traveled down to Lost Hills for the California South Coast Retriever Club test and earned their Senior Hunter title there! Mimi said that they drove 33+ hours and who knows how many miles and were exhausted, but very happy, after two months of seemingly “on the road.”   Congratulations to this very dedicated and talented team of Mimi, David and Andy!!!

“Lilah & Xan – New SH Title”

Xan and Lilah have a lot to be proud of so far this year!  Besides two of Lilah’s puppies (Kodiak and Julep) earning their JH titles this Spring, Lilah earned her Senior Hunter title in June at the Great Western Flat-Coated Retriever Club test in Chino.  What a talented crew Xan has raised and trained!  Congratulations to Xan and Lilah!!!

“Teak & Kathy – New MH Title”

Aqueus Dutch Wood Polish – “Teak” – o/h Kathy Gibson – Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever Female

Big congratulations to Kathy and Teak on obtaining their Master Hunter title at the California South Coast Retriever Club hunt test at Lost Hills in May!  Kathy and Teak have had a very busy Spring traveling to hunt tests in Arizona and Nevada, as well as various locations in California.  After getting their first Master pass last October, they started out this year going to Arizona for the Copper State Hunting Retriever Club’s test in February, and came home with their 2nd MH pass.  They received their 3rd pass in Anderson, CA at the Lassen test in early April.  A month later, they traveled to Fallon, NV to run in the Sierra Nevada Retriever Club’s hunt test, and came home with their 4th pass.  Two weeks later, they got their final leg to earn their title!  Kathy has done a wonderful job and should be very proud of her little red rocket dog!  Way to go Teak and Kathy!!!

“Reegan & Bruce – New MH Title”

Congratulations are in order for Bruce and Reegan on their new Master Hunter title!  This talented and hardworking team completed their Master Hunter title in less than a year, earning their first pass last October and their fifth and final pass in June.  In addition, they achieved this accomplishment and Reegan isn’t even 3 years old!  Bruce says that Reegan is so good she just needs him to take the birds so she can go get the next one.  He also credits Cheryl for picking Reegan out of the litter for him, and said that without her wisdom and insight none of this would have happened.  Bruce and Reegan have definitely made Cheryl very proud!  Congratulations on this fantastic accomplishment!!!

“Echo & Cathy – New WCX Title”

Echo earned her WCX at the NorCal Golden Retriever WCX test on May 11.  This was Echo’s first time having to be steady with live flyers.  Cathy is very happy to say she was solid in her sits as she watched the birds going down. Cathy is so proud of this girl coming back from 4 months off, raring to go and being able to pick up where she left off.  It’s great to see this team back in the field and doing so well!  Congratulations to Cathy and Echo on this latest title!!

“Carly & Karen – New WC Title”

Eromit’s California Dreaming – “Carly” – o/h Karen Johnson – Labrador Retriever Female

Congratulations to Karen and Carly on earning their Working Certificate title!  Even though Karen and Carly are newbies to the game, Carly’s natural talents are already showing.  They earned their WC in May at at the Golden Gate and Sierra Vista Labrador Retriever Club’s WC and WCX test.  Karen said that they went to the test just to observe, but got talked into entering, and to her surprise Carly passed!  She said Carly had no problems and delivered all birds right to her.  We’ll be seeing a lot more from this talented team.  Way to go Karen and Carly!!

OTHER ACCOMPLISHMENTS:

“Ember & Jean – 3rd MH Leg”

Sunbeam’s Wildfire – “Ember” – o/h Jean Mott – Golden Retriever Female

Congratulations to Jean and Ember on earning their 3rd Master Hunter pass at the Hills Ferry Hunting Retriever Club’s test in March!  Jean is taking the rest of the Summer off to have knee surgery, but we expect to see her and Ember back in the field in the Fall working towards the last 2 passes for their title.

“Flyer & Jean – Qualified for 2013 Master National”

Sunbeam’s Leap of Faith – “Flyer” – o/h Jean Mott – Golden Retriever Female

The oldest of Jean’s Sunbeam girls, Flyer continues to run strong and has earned 6 Master passes from last October to this March and is now qualified to run at the 2013 Master National.  Congratulations to Jean and Flyer on this great accomplishment!

“Ryman & Ardith – 3 MH Legs”

Congratulations to Ardith and Ryman on their 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Master passes!  Ardith and Ryman continue to exhibit great teamwork and earned passes at the Marin Retriever Club’s test and the Norcal Golden Retriever Club’s test in March.  They also took a road trip to Glide, OR for the Umpqua Valley Retriever Club’s test and came home with their 4th Master ribbon.  Great job Ardith and Ryman!!

“Indee & Bruce – 2nd MH Leg”

Wright’s Mindy’s Independent Girl – “Indee” – o/h Bruce Hayes – Golden Retriever Female

Bruce and Indee earned their 2nd Master Hunter pass this March at the Marin Retriever Club’s hunt test in Corning.  Congratulations Bruce and Indee!  Your hard work and dedication are paying off and will get you to your title!

“Boy Wonder & Xan – 3 MH Legs”

Flyway Farms Boom Boom Pow – “Boy Wonder” – o/h Alexandra Latta – Flat-Coated Retriever Male

Boy Wonder and Xan earned 3 more Master passes, giving them a total of 4 Master legs.  Boy Wonder was in Ohio in April and earned 2 passes at the Ohio Valley Retriever Club Spring Hunt Test.  After returning home, he and Xan went down to Chino and got another pass at the Great Western Flat-Coated Retriever Club test.  Great job Boy and Xan, one more leg to go!  Congratulations!!
