Congratulations to Mimi, David and Andy on completing their Junior Hunter title at the Norcal Golden Retriever Club Hunt Test!!!  They’ve had a great start to the year, obtaining their 4 JH legs in February and March.  Hard work certainly pays off!  Great job by all three of you!!

Ardith and Ryman were awarded their 4th straight SH leg to complete their Senior Hunter title at the Hills Ferry Hunting Retriever Club test in Los Banos.  This fabulous team went 4 for 4 to get their title and seemed to do it with ease!  Congratulations Ardith and Ryman!!  We’ll be reporting on your Master accomplishments real soon!

“Reegan & Bruce – New JH Title”

From Acorns, Mighty Oaks do grow. Pictured as a puppy Reegan gets her bird. She has nearly always got her bird!! After going 3 for 3 last Fall, Bruce and Reegan had to wait for the hunt test season to start up this Spring to finish up their Junior Hunter title.  They did that with ease in the first test of the season to complete their JH title in four straight outings!   This is a great working team that we’ll be sure to see in Senior tests soon!  Congratulations to you both! Keltie (Momma Dog) and Cheryl are very proud of you both.

“Teak & Kathy – New SH Title”

Aqueus Dutch Wood Polish SH – “Teak” – o/h Kathy Gibson – Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever Female

Kathy and Teak made the long haul to Arizona in February to compete in the Copper State hunt test and it was a worthwhile adventure for them, as they came home with 2 more SH legs to complete their Senior Hunter title!!!  Kathy and Teak made it look easy, going 4 for 4 to achieve their title.  It’s going to be great to see them in Master next.  Congratulations to this great working team!

After having puppies last Fall, Monkey is back to running the hunt tests and had a great weekend at the Norcal GRC Hunt Test.  Monkey and Cheryl showed good teamwork through the 3 series and were awarded with a ribbon for their great job!  Congratulations to Cheryl and Monkey on receiving your 2nd MH leg!!!

“Nessie & Terri – 3 JH Legs”

Tennessee Gimme That Chocolate – “Nessie” – O/H Teresa Mahallati – Labrador Retriever Female

After recovering from Nessie’s eye injury and having to scratch their entries at tests in February, Nessie finally got to make her hunt test debut at the Lassen Retriever Club Hunt Test double header in mid-March.  They had a great weekend and came home with 2 Junior Hunter legs!  They followed that up the next weekend at the Norcal GRC Hunt Test and brought home another JH leg!  Congratulations to Terri and Nessie!!!

Janice and Rowan made their hunt test debut at the Norcal GRC Hunt Test and came home with their first hunt test ribbon!   Congratulations to this handsome boy and his proud handler!!!  Keep up the good work!

“Guiness & Sam – 1st JH Leg”

Congratulations to Sam and Guiness on their first Junior Hunter leg!!!  They made their hunt test debut at the Norcal GRC Hunt Test and brought home their first ribbon.  Even though they are newbies to the hunt test game, Guiness loves his birds and he and Sam are a great team.  Soon we’ll be adding a hunt title to all those agility titles!

Lidos I Love Lucy JH, RN, WCX –“Lucy”  — O/H Paddy Berne — Standard Poodle Female

Lucy and Paddy have been working hard on their teamwork and it has paid off for them.   Paddy and Lucy started out the 2012 hunt test season by taking a trip to Florida to run some tests and visit some friends.  During the first part of their visit, Paddy and Lucy got in some good training while enjoying some warm weather and change of scenery.   The winds started blowing and the temperature dropped just in time for the hunt tests, but Lucy proved she could still perform in those less than perfect conditions!  Paddy was very proud of Lucy, as she did her job and brought back her 2nd SH leg!   Congratulations to you both!!

Terri also made the long haul to the Copper State hunt test in Arizona and she and Spice brought home their 2nd Master Hunter leg despite having some bad luck at the start of the weekend.  Terri woke up Friday to find her young dog Nessie with a bad injury to her eye.  After getting Nessie checked out by both a regular vet and an ophthalmology vet, Terri managed to get back to finish the last series with Spice and get a ribbon!  Talk about working under stress!  Congratulations to Terri and Spice!!!  Unfortunately, Nessie couldn’t make her hunt test debut as planned, but we hear she’s all healed up ready to go again.

“Gabby & Cheryl – 3 more MH Legs”

Cheryl and Gabby have started out the year on a roll, adding another 3 Master Hunter legs to their many achievements!  Cheryl had a great trip to Arizona for the Copper State hunt test as well as a visit with her grandson.  Gabby and Cheryl came home with 2 ribbons from Arizona!  After a short week at home, they went to Los Banos for the Monterey Bay Hunting Retriever Club test and brought home another ribbon!  Way to go Gabby and Cheryl!!!

What can I say about this amazing team?  In three short years, Diane & Shuttle have gone from casual students, with a goal of a single Junior Hunter title to a dynamo pair that completed their final Master legs during the spring hunt test season.  Shuttle & Diane earned legs at the Monterey Bay HRC Spring Hunt Test, the Hills Ferry HRC Hunt Test & the Sierra Nevada Retriever Club Spring Hunt Test.

“Gustav & David – New SH Title!”

Ardenwood Gustav As A Wayfarer SH WC — “Gustav” — Black Flatcoat Male — O/H: David Kunkle

This team is still turning heads.   Gustav picked up his last two  Senior Hunter legs shortly before his third birthday.  Judges at the Monterey Bay HRC Hunt Test & the Hills Ferry Hunt Test couldn’t get over the speed with which Gustav left the line, and his stylish water entries.  David & Gustav are now training for Master, and hope to be ready to run in the fall.

“Anton & David – New JH Title!”

David learned a lot training Gustav (his first field dog), and his it’s evident that David and Anton will go far.  Anton showed David just how much he likes this game by passing four straight Junior Hunter tests, earning his Junior title at just a bit past his first birthday.

Anton & David earned JH legs at the Monterey Bay HRC Hunt Test, the Hills Ferry HRC Hunt test, and the Marin Retriever Club’s double-header.  Way to go, guys.  See you soon in Senior!

Not to be outdone by brother Anton, Delilah earned her last three Junior legs and then one more, completing her Junior title the same weekend that Anton earned his.  She earned legs at the NorCal Golden Retriever Hunt Test, the Lassen Retriever Club Hunt test, and two legs at the Marin Retriever Club’s double header.   Xan must be very proud of Delilah’s performance.  She’s certainly a carbon copy of her mother, Layla.  We look forward to hearing great things about Delilah’s successes in the field and the show-ring.  This girl likes her phessies!

“Zeke & Jennifer – New JH Title!”

Otterbrook’s Ezekiel JH — “Zeke” — Golden Retriever Male — O/H: Jennifer Dill

This team’s training and talent showed through!  New to the game last year, Zeke & Jill had to wait until the spring hunt test season to pick up their final two JH legs.  This stylish youngster earned legs at the Monterey Bay HRC Hunt Test and the NorCal Golden Retriever Hunt Test.  He really loves this game, and we look forward to seeing them in group, preparing for Senior!

“Jade & Suzanne – New JH Title!”

Suzanne & Jade have made great strides in a very short time.  Jade showed great promise during her puppy evaluations, and under Suzanne’s guidance, has proven that she has a great future ahead of her.   In less than two short months, puppy Jade earned five Junior Hunter legs, giving her one more than necessary to earn her JH.

Way to go, team!  We’ll look for you in Senior!

“Decker & Jeanne – New JH Title!”

Topwater Hiddenspring Yuletide JH — “Decker” — Black Labrador Retriever Male — O/H: Jeanne Collier

This team had to wait until the spring hunt test season for an opportunity to earn their fourth Junior Hunter leg.  Decker & Jeanne did that easily at the Monterey Bay HRC Hunt Test.  But wait, there’s more.  Not satisfied waiting until the fall tests to make their debut in Senior, Jeanne & Decker made the trek to the Umpqua Valley Retriever Club double header, and earned two Senior legs.  It’s been great watching the teamwork develop between these two.  Those last two SH legs should present no difficulties.

“Punch & Shari – New WC Title!”

After spending the fall and winter hunting pheasants and ducks, Punch & Shari returned to formal field training in order to prepare for the NorCal Golden Retriever Club’s Working Certificate test.  When test day arrived, Punch showed everyone that although he’d taken a few months off of training, his marking skills were still as sharp as ever.  He even remembered where the fall of his “no bird” had been, and checked to see if he could convert his land double to a triple.  Punch & Shari also earned a second Junior Hunter leg at the NorCal Golden Retriever Club Hunt Test in March.

“Monkey & Cheryl – New JH, WC & WCX Titles!”

It’s so much fun to watch this little girl work.  If you blinked, you might have missed Monkey pursuing her Junior Hunter Title.  Five tests, five passes, and a Working Certificate & Working Certificate Excellent in one season.  She & Cheryl are just getting started.  Monkey earned Junior Hunter legs at the Monterey Bay HRC test, the Hills Ferry HRC test, the NorCal Golden Retriever Club test, and two legs at the Marin Retriever Club double-header.  She finished up by bringing home both the WC & the WCX rosette from the NorCal GRC WC/X tests.

“Quinn & Jeanne – New JH & WC Title!”

Cheryl must be so proud of the achievements of her 2008 litters.  Not to be outdone by his sisters, Quinn, along with Jeanne earned five Junior Hunter legs and a Working Certificate this season.  And he looked great while earning them.  This handsome lad earned Junior Hunter legs at the Monterey Bay HRC Hunt Test, the Hills Ferry HRC Hunt Test, the NorCal Golden Retriever Club test, and two legs at the Marin Retriever Club double-header.  He also brought home one of those lovely NorCal GRC Working Certificate rosettes.

“Rainbow & Charlotte- New JH, WC & WCX Titles!”

Trumpet’s Ultimate Caddis JH WCX CGC – “Rainbow” – Golden Female – O/H: Charlotte Gaynor

Rainbow and Charlotte are becoming a wonderful team, and will go far together.  They went four-for-four for their Junior Hunter Title.  Last year, Rainbow earned two Junior Hunter legs in one weekend.  This season, she earned her third and fourth on consecutive weekends.   Rainbow & Charlotte then went on to earn a Working Certificate AND a Working Certificate Excellent on the same day.  We expect the same quick results when they are ready to run in Senior Hunter tests.

“Cal & Tracey – New WC title!”

Rivercity’s High Caliber AX MXJ JH WC — “Cal” — Golden Retriever Male — O/H Tracey Mays

Cal & Tracey took time out of their busy agility schedule to attend the NorCal Golden Retriever Club’s Working Certificate test, and once again, Cal showed that he can play the field game just as well as the agility game.  They are honing their handling skills, and we expect that Cal will be sporting another field title in short order.

“Lucy & Paddy – New WC Title!”

Congratulations to Lucy & Paddy on the first of many titles that are sure to come their way!  Lucy earned her first title and first Rosette at the NorCal Golden Retriever Club’s Working Certificate Test.  And she showed everyone that Poodles are stylish retrievers, not just pretty faces.

“Sophie & Harvey – New JH title!”

What a pleasure it has been to watch Sophie & Harvey work toward their first field title.  Harvey took the winter off, and it was wonderful to get to watch the celebration when Sophie picked up her fourth Junior Hunter leg at the Hills Ferry HRC Hunt Test.  Harvey and Pam had huge smiles as Sophie delivered her fourth bird of the day to hand.   Congratulations!

“Joe & Pam – New JH title!”

Pam had good reason to smile at the NorCal Golden Retriever Club Hunt Test.  Her father’s dog Sophie earned her JH title, and Pam’s Joe wanted to bring home one of those cool rosettes, and a Junior Hunter title, too.  And that’s just what he did.  Joe and Pam have become a great working team, and we look forward to seeing them compete in higher levels soon.

There’s something about watching liver flatcoats in the field.  Oliver & Pam had a large group of supporters in the gallery when they earned their fourth Junior Hunter leg at the Marin Retriever Club Hunt Test.  That brown dog knew he had done something special for Pam, because Pam had a huge grin on her face.  Ollie had picked up legs two and three earlier in the spring at the NorCal GRC Hunt Test and the Monterey Bay HRC Hunt Test.

“Ember & Jean – New WC title!”

“Ember”is Jean Mott’s Flyer’s daughter, and she is displaying the same talent for the field as mother.  At the age of 10 months, Ember & Jean earned a Working Certificate from the Golden Retriever Club of America held by the Norcal Golden Retriever Club in June 2009.

“Zip & Joe – New Canadian WC & WCI titles!”

Joe & his wife Patti spent their vacation on Vancouver Island, BC, attending the Flat-coated Retriever Society of Canada’s national specialty, where Zip(!!!) & Joe spent a very productive two days running the Pacific Rim Hunting Retriever Club’s Working Certificate and the FCRSC’s WCI test.  They passed both tests, and Zip(!!!) also qualified for a FCRSC “Beauty & Brains” award, since he placed third in the FCRSC Specialty Bred-by class.

“Blaze & Cheryl – New MH title and Field Trial Qualifying JAM!”

Magicgold Wheels Of Fire MH, CGC,WCX ** — “Blaze”–  Golden Retriever Female –O/H:Cheryl Baca

Blaze bounced back from maternity leave in grand fashion, picking up two Master Hunter legs at the Monterey Bay HRC Hunt Test and the Marin Retriever Club Hunt Test, which completed her Master Hunter Title.  She also earned a Judges Award of Merit at the Sacramento Valley Retriever Club’s Spring Field Trial.

“Gabby & Cheryl – Field Trial Qualifying JAM!”

Magicgold’s Galloping Gabby MH,WCX ** – “Gabby” – Golden Retriever Female - O/H: Cheryl Baca

Gabby was getting used to being the star career girl while the other two girls finished their motherly duties and got back into shape.  So she was horrified when Blaze got herself a Field Trial Qualifying JAM.  Well if Blaze could get something that pleased Cheryl so much, Gabby was going to get one too.  And she did just that at the Sierra Nevada Retriever Club’s Spring Field Trial.

“Keltie & Cheryl – New MH title and Field Trial Qualifying JAM!”

Now this just wouldn’t do.  Keltie was not going to be the only adult golden in the family without one of those fancy rosettes with the JAM printed on it.  So she set off to get one.  But before she did that, Keltie & Cheryl earned their last two Master Hunter legs at the Monterey Bay HRC Hunt Test & the Hills Ferry HRC Hunt Test, earning Keltie’s MH.  Then, Keltie went hunting for her JAM and found it at the San Jose Retriever Club’s Triple DQ.  Not being one to be satisfied with that task, she earned another Master Hunter pass at the Marin Retriever Club Hunt Test.

Master National Qualifiers:

“Zinger & Jean – four MH passes!”

Coarsegold’s Flaming Red Zinger CD MH WCX — “Zinger” — Golden Retriever Female — O/H Jean Mott

This pair is on a roll!  Four Master Hunter passes in a row, and they show no sign of slowing down.  Zinger & Jean earned MH passes at the NorCal Golden Retriever Club Hunt Test, the Lassen Retriever Club Hunt Test, and at back-to-back tests held by the Sierra Nevada Retriever Club!  Congratulations Jean & Zinger!  Zinger has also qualified for the Master National.  This is her 3rd time qualifying and she has a total of  23 Master passes.

“Flyer & Jean – Three MH passes!”

This girl finished her Master Hunter title last year, and has three MH passes s0 far this year.  Flyer has qualified for the Master National this year.   Flyer earned a Master Hunter rosette at the NorCal Golden Retriever Club Hunt Test, and TWO rosettes at the Sierra Nevada Retriever Club’s back-to-back tests.

“Henley & Ardith – Two Senior Hunter passes!”

They’re half-way there!  Henley has figured out the handling game, and earned two Senior Hunter legs this spring – one at the NorCal Golden Retriever Club Hunt Test, and the other at the Marin Retriever Club double-header.  Congratulations, Ardith.  We look forward to watching the two of you earn that Senior Hunter title in the fall tests.

“Luke & Alan – Two Senior Hunter passes!”

Chi Luke of Copperidge JH — “Luke” — Golden Retriever Male — O/H Alan Kaber

At just over two, this handsome Golden boy is half-way to his Senior Hunter Title.  Luke & Alan had some Derby fun early in the year, and then got to work on their SH, earning the first leg at the Sierra Nevada Retriever Club Hunt Test, and the second at the Marin Retriever Club Hunt Test.  We’re sure to see some new letters after this Luke’s name in no time.  They’ve really done well.

“Arson & Diane – Four Junior Hunter passes!”

Arson & Diane got through Junior so quickly, that they wanted to do it again.  It’s unfortunate that one can’t get bonus points for extra legs, because this pair work so beautifully together that we could just keep watching them work.  They earned their bonus passes at the Monterey Bay HRC test, the Hills Ferry HRC test, the NorCal Golden Retriever Club Hunt Test & the Lassen Retriever Club test.  We’re sure to see them in Senior soon.

“Raleigh & Charlotte – Three Junior Hunter passes!”

This baby dog is turning heads.  He earned his first Junior Hunter leg at the young age of nine months and one day at the Hills Ferry Hunting Retriever Club’s Hunt Test.  Two months later, he earned his second and third legs at the Marin Retriever Club’s double-header.  We are certain to see this youngster showing the big dogs how it’s done in Senior in the very near future.

Layla completed her Senior Hunter title in two weeks.  She earned four passes in a row at a pair of double-headers – the Labrador Retriever Club of Southern California Hunt Tests and the Golden Retriever Club of Greater Los Angeles Hunt Tests. Her reliable marking and consistent handling got her through some very difficult tests. Xan & Layla look forward to another epic hunting season as they prepare for Master.

“Sugar & Don – new JH title!”

Marquis Chocolate Kisses JH – “Sugar” – Liver Flatcoat Female  -  O/H Don Linville 

At the young age of ten months, Sugar passed her first JH test at the Sacramento Valley Retriever Club 2008 Fall Hunt Test. Sugar proved to everyone that liver flatcoat puppies can play with the big dogs by earning three more Junior legs in eight days – two legs at the Sagehens Retriever Club 2008 Fall Hunt Test double-header and her fourth and title at the Norcal Golden Retriever Club 2008 Fall Hunt Test.    She earned her title at only eleven months of age!  Congratulations to Don & Sugar.    They plan to celebrate the new title at the local pheasant club.

Grace demonstrated that anything worth doing is worth doing efficiently and well.   Forced to skip the last tests of the spring because girls in season can’t compete (silly rule!), Grace finished her Junior Hunter title in style at the Sagehens double header October 4 & 5, earning her fourth and fifth passes.  Way to go, girls!  We’re looking forward to see you in Senior!

“Arson & Diane – new JH title!”

Heads Up Radiant Energy JH – “Arson” –  Golden Retriever Male - O/H Diane Glassmeyer 

Wow!  at the young age of eight and a half months, this handsome youngster  proved that he understands the hunt-test game and finished his Junior Hunter title.  He earned legs in the Redwood Empire Retriever Club 2008 Summer Hunt Test,  Sagehens Retriever Club 2008 Fall Hunt Test (a double-header, two passes), and the Norcal Golden Retriever Club Fall Hunt Test.  We’re looking forward to seeing this youngster in Senior next fall.

“Gabby & Cheryl – new MH title & Master National Qualifier!”

Magicgold’s Galloping Gabby MH,WCX ** – “Gabby” – Golden Retriever Female - O/H: Cheryl Baca

Gabby made it clear that she loves being the only gal on the truck.  Her two roommates may be awesome mothers, but Gabby benefited from the training time alone with Cheryl.  Gabby also likes running October tests.  In short order, this dynamic duo earned three Master legs and completed Gabby’s Master Hunter Title.  She also passed five of seven Master tests held since August 1, 2008.  That means that Gabby has qualified for the Master National!  They earned legs at the Sagehens Retriever Club 2008 Fall Hunt Test, the Norcal Golden Retriever Club Fall, and the Labrador Retriever Club of Southern California.  What a team!

“Flyer & Jean – new MH title!”

Sunbeam’s Leap of Faith MH WCX — “Flyer”  - Golden Retriever Female - O/H Jean Mott 

Not to be shown up by Gabby, Flyer completed her Master Hunter Title in grand fashion.   These Golden Girls just love October tests!  Flyer earned three Master Hunter legs – the first at the Sagehens Retriever Club 2008 Fall Hunt Test, followed by  great performances at the Norcal Golden Retriever Club Fall, and the Labrador Retriever Club of Southern California.   We expect to see Flyer at the Master National soon!   

Legs toward titles:

Topwater Hiddenspring Yuletide – “Decker” – Black Labrador Male - O/H Jeanne Collier 

Decker would like to request another fall hunt test.  This fall was over way too soon.  He just needed one more test to earn his Junior Hunter title.  In eight days, this dynamo earned three legs:  Two at the Sagehens Retriever Club 2008 Fall Hunt Test double-header and a third at the Norcal Golden Retriever Club Fall Hunt Test.  Way to go, Jeanne & Decker!

Marquis Tule Fog – “Tule” – Liver Flatcoat Male – O/H Mark Rudden 

You’ve got to love those brown dogs!  In three Junior Hunter tests, Mark & Tule earned three Junior Hunter legs.  After taking a break for duck season (where we understand he is performing beautifully), this team plans to return to the hunt test game in the spring for their final Junior leg and the title of Junior Hunter.  We look forward to seeing them in February or March!

Ch MACH Shasta Action Item VCD1 RA OF JH WC — “Memo” — Black Flatcoat Female — O/H Barbara Fowler

Although they finished their Junior Hunter title in September, Memo and Barb can’t just watch the game.  Memo wants her birds.  They competed in a Junior test at the Sagehens Retriever Club 2008 Fall Hunt Test on October 5, where Memo picked up her fifth leg.  What an awesome team.  We’re looking forward to seeing Memo’s baby brother in Junior soon.

Brookestone’s Blackbeard WC — “Joe” — Black Flatcoat Male — O/H Pam Morris

Joe picked up a Junior Hunter leg in October for a total of three, at the Sagehens Retriever Club 2008 Fall Hunt Test on October 5, and his Conformation Championship at the Del Valle Kennel Club Show in October.  Pam states that she was ” so disappointed they missed that last leg at the NorCal day, a total handler error, and an expensive lesson!  That would have been so cool to title both CH and JH the same month!”  We’re sure that Joey didn’t mind.  It’s a great excuse to keep working in the field with his favorite person.  We’re sure to see Joe with titles on both ends of his name this spring.

Ch Bertschires’s Black Rhian — “Sophie” — Black Flatcoat Female — O/H Harvey Riggs

Sophie and Harvey picked up their third Junior leg at the Norcal Golden Retriever Club Fall Hunt Test.  Harvey had a grin that stretched from ear to ear.  He’s had to take some time off from training this winter, and we bet that he and Sophie are more than anxious to get back in the fields. They’ve got one more Junior leg to go, and we can’t wait to see Harvey and his talented girl back training soon.   

Rockyhill’s Funny Cide – “Punch” – Black Flatcoat Male – O/H Shari Hughes

Shari & Punch took some time off their upland pheasant training to try out the hunt test game, and they were quite successful, earning their first Junior Hunter leg at the Norcal Golden Retriever Club Fall Hunt Test.  Punch will spend the next few months chasing roosters, and we hope to see him back in the hunt test game after pheasant season ends.

CH. Windfall’s McKenzie – “McKenzie” – Black Flatcoat Female – O/H Gina Spadafori 

When we first started working together, McKenzie loved her bumpers.  Now she has decided that birds are much cooler.  In fact, she LOVES  ducks!  Gina & McKenzie are nearly there!  With limited time in the training field, this team earned three of four Junior Hunter legs in October and November.  McKenzie has come a very long way since her introduction to birds in the water, and we expect her fourth leg to come easily.  

Ardenwood Gustav As A Wayfarer JH WC — “Gustav” — Black Flatcoat Male — O/H: David Kunkle

David & Gustav are half-way to their Senior Hunter title!  These two are such a joy to watch.  This young duo made it look easy, earning their first leg at the  Sagehens Retriever Club 2008 Fall Hunt Test on October 4, and a second leg at the Norcal Golden Retriever Club Fall on October 11.  David also picked up some great things to work on.  We expect this pair to finish their Senior title in short order in the spring.  

Shannara’s Rav’n Tsunami – “Storm” – Black Flatcoat Male – O/H Cathy Lynch

Congratulations to Storm & Cathy on their first Junior Hunter leg!  What a nice start for this team, and we expect them to have a promising hunt test career.   Storm has learned how to handle birds that stand up and leave the area, and is prepared to deal with difficult terrain and weather challenges.  We look forward to watching them in their next JH test.

Otterbrook’s Ezekiel – “Zeke” – Golden Retriever Male – O/H Jennifer Dill

This team is also new to the hunt test game, and they’ve been training diligently.  Their hard work paid off with two passes at the Golden Retriever Club of Greater Los Angeles Hunt Test Double header!  This was not an easy venue, quite different than the places where they usually train, but they aced both tests, and are now half-way to their Junior Hunter title.  We look forward to bragging about their upcoming success and new JH title soon.

Flyway Farms Tears from Laughter - “Delilah” – Black Flatcoat Female – O/H Xan Latta

What can we say about this puppy, except that she’s a carbon copy of her mother Layla, with oodles of energy and drive.  She proved that her young age wasn’t an issue, and successfully completed her first Junior Hunter leg at the Golden Retriever Club of Greater Los Angeles Hunt Test.  A grand achievement for an eight-month old flatcoat puppy.  She’s currently pushing up birds at the local pheasant club, and training for the spring tests. 

Coarsegold’s Flaming Red Zinger CD MH WCX — “Zinger” — Golden Retriever Female — O/H Jean Mott

Zinger and Jean had a productive 2008 fall hunt test season, earning two passes in very difficult tests.  Their first MH pass was earned at the  Sagehens Retriever Club 2008 Fall Hunt Test, followed the next week by a second pass at the Norcal Golden Retriever Club Fall Hunt Test.  Zinger has passed nineteen Master Hunter tests.  Two of those legs count toward qualifying for the 2009 Master National.  Good luck, girls.  We hope to see you there!

“Suzanne & Ruby new WC title!”

Princess Zen Ruby Roja UDX JH WC— “Ruby” — Golden Retriever Female — O/H Suzanne Mikolajcik

Just two weeks after completing her Junior Hunter title, Ruby earned her Working Certificate at the NorCal Golden Retriever Club’s WC/WCX trial in Suisun City, California.  Ruby and Suzanne began hunt training with Cheryl just one year ago, in June of 2007 after earning Ruby’s UDX in Obedience. What an awesome team!  Cheryl and Suzanne are going to work toward completing Ruby’s WCX before she officially retires.

“Charlotte & Rainbow new WC title!”

Trumpet’s Ultimate Caddis WC CGC – “Rainbow” – Golden Female – O/H: Charlotte Gaynor

Born March 13, 2007, Rainbow earned her WC at the NorCal GRC WC/WCX test held at Denverton on June 7, 2008. Bred, owned and handled by Charlotte, Rainbow owes her early successes to Cheryl’s training and coaching Charlotte, and to her mother, Ritzi who whelped 9 pups the day before!

“Ardith & Henley new WCX!”

Magicgold Hotel California JH WCX CCA – “Henley” – Golden Male – O/H: Ardith Osborn

Henley qualified for his WCX at the NorCal GRC WC/WCX on June 7, 2008.  He qualified for his JH in four out of four tries and his WC on the first try.  Although he took two tries to get his WCX, he did so in grand style, proving that Magicgold “men” have the right stuff too.  He is a pleasure to train and a wonderful companion.  Ardith & Henley are both looking forward to moving on to Senior.

Chi Luke of Copperidge JH — “Luke” — Golden Retriever Male — O/H Alan Kabert

Congratulations to this wonderful team!  In September, Luke earned his Junior Hunter title at the Sacramento Valley Retriever Club’s 2008 Fall Hunt test at Denverton.  Luke is a young work, and his and Alan’s hard work and dedication have really paid off.  Luke didn’t put a paw wrong.    Now on to Senior and Field trials!

Rivercity’s High Caliber AX MXJ JH — “Cal” — Golden Retriever Male — O/H Tracey Mays

Tracey & Cal must LOVE Oregon.  In April 2008, they had great success there, earning two JH legs.  They travelled to Glide, Oregon again in June, where they competed in the Umpqua Valley Retriever Club double header hunt test.  Cal showed his stuff again, finishing his JH title on Saturday, and an insurance leg on Sunday!  What a nice weekend!  What a wonderful team.

This team is still turning heads.   Shuttle picked up her first Master Hunter leg shortly after she turned two. Diane & Shuttle’s fall hunt test season is off to a good start – they picked up Shuttle’s second MH leg at the Sacramento Valley Retriever Club hunt test.

 

Ch Ardenwood As Time Goes By JH WCX — “Zip(!!!) — Liver Flatcoat Male — O/H Joe Skorupa

Zip(!!!) and Joe earned their second Senior Hunter leg, demonstrating that this team knows how to play the game.  Zip(!!!)’s marking continues to earn praise, and their blind work is coming along nicely.  Joe also learned what they need to focus on before their next test.  The water series was quite a learning experience – first a no-bird when the honoring dog broke, then a duck and pick-up dogs running around trucks and holding blinds, including the one that Joe & and Zip(!!!) were occupying.  

 

SR. Magicgold’s Celtic Causeway SH,WCX,** – “Keltie” – O/H: Cheryl Baca – Golden Retriever Female

Keltie was one of 14 dogs to pass the Master test held by Redwood Empire Retriever Club. This was her 2nd Master Pass. Here’s Cheryl’s description of the test:  ”After completing the challenging first land water series triple with a land blind she went on to the 2nd series. The 3 in line triple on land was extremely difficult as the long bird went down last. The wind was blowing scent from the first two marks thrown into the dogs noses. Three dogs ran ahead of Keltie. All Master National Qualifiers, and one QAA dog. Each bent in to the middle bird and picked it up despite taking nice initial lines to the long Go bird. This forced the handlers to decide how to take the other  two marks. Having used up the initial line to the Go Bird added in a lot of confusion and basically each dog that did this was handled on two of the three marks. Keltie charged out to the Go Bird and just as she was closing in I saw her turn her head toward the middle bird. Instinctively I blew the whistle and cast her back. She was very good and took my cast picking up the long Go Bird in one whistle was the best any of the dogs had done. She proceeded to take the short bird next and then the middle without handles. A round of Applause bellowed as we finished the series. I asked the Judges if that was good enough. They both said that was the Best Job so far. However, poor Keltie never got that counted toward her final score as they scratched the test after we were done.. Altho’ Keltie continued to awe the Gallery and Judges throughout the test (and me too) I would have to say that the second series that never was, was a truly a Magic moment to have spent with my dog.   She then followed up by picking up her 3rd Master leg in the Prado test which held our first ever Delayed Quad on the water. Never missing a beat, Ms. Keltie shared First Place with four other terrific dogs recently at the NorCal GRC Single series. Including her good friend Zip! The day after she promptly came in to heat. Which disappointingly enough has forced us to scratch from the next 3 tests we entered…”

Magicgold’s Galloping Gabby SH,WCX ** – “Gabby” – O/H: Cheryl Baca-Golden Retriever Female

Gabby earned her first two Master Hunter legs at the Double Header held at Prado a few weeks ago. Cheryl’s comments – “She was a Pistol. Never missing a mark and her blinds were some of the best she has done. Including the one between the tree branches in the water. Gabby ran her first Qual at Denverton Road a few weeks ago and made it to the 3rd Series. I was especially proud of her marking on the first series as she was one of only nine dogs who did not have to handle on the 3 in line triple. Altho’ her water blind was probably the stinkiest I have ever seen her do!”

Pam and her boys were busy at the Flat-coated Retriever Society of America (FCRSA) National specialty! Joe, Oliver and Pam traveled to St. Louis Ponds, Gervais, Oregon, where Joe & Pam earned their Working Certificate. They also earned a Junior Hunter Leg and 2nd Place in the FCRSA Unsteady Singles-A competition. And to prove that he’s more than just a working dog, Joe then won a 2nd Place rosette in Open Dog at the FCRSA National Specialty conformation show. Way to go, you handsome boy!

Talk about being on a roll! Oli & Pam earned his Working Certificate, along with a JH Leg and 3rd Place in the Unsteady Singles-A competition! It has been so much funto watch Oliver develop into an enthusiastic working dog that understands the game. He truly loves working for Pam. This team has come a long way, and we’re sure that Oliver will soon add a JH to his name.

“Gustav & David new JH title, new WC title!!”

Gustav and David had a spectacular time at the FCRSA specialty at St. Louis Ponds, Gervais, Oregon. Gustav earned his Working Certificate, the fourth leg for his Junior Hunter title (four for four!) and a Judges’ Award of Merit (JAM) in the Steady Singles competition (he and his brother were two of the youngest dogs in the competition, and they both JAM’d.) Gustav’s flying water entries were the talk of the specialty field events. We’re looking forward to watching Gustav running Senior in the fall, and perhaps setting a new personal best in some local Dock Diving events.

Zip(!!!) continues to demonstrate how much he loves the game. At the FCRSA National Specialty at St. Louis Ponds, Gervais, Oregon, this team earned a Working Certificate Excellent and JAM’d in the Steady Singles competition. After the Steady Singles event, a judge from one stake commented: “I’d take that liver dog home in a heartbeat. I’ve got an extra crate in my car…” A judge from another stake stood up and said: “Oh, no you don’t! I saw him first!” The next weekend, Zip(!!!) & Joe earned their first Senior Hunter Leg at the Rogue Valley Retriever Club 2008 Spring hunt test.

“Shadow” is Jeanne’s third generation Senior Hunter. She earned her SH title at the Sierra Nevada Retriever Club hunt test in Fallon, NV. Shadow is just two years of age, and all of Jeanne’s work, prayer and worry paid off beautifully! Shadow has made Mama Gwen and Grandma Cinder proud. Jeanne’s next goal for Shadow is a CGC.

Ruby Roja, UDX earned her Junior Hunter title on May 25 at Sauvie Island in Portland, Oregon. Ruby has an AKC ILP and is seven and a half years old. She began hunt training with Cheryl less than one year ago, in June of 2007 after earning her UDX in Obedience. Suzanne says that she thanks God for bringing a dog like Ruby into her life and that thanks to Cheryl, Ruby can spend the rest of her working career running, swimming, retrieving and enjoying herself in nature. Suzanne & Ruby are training for Ruby’s WCX.

Luke and Alan earned their second and third Junior Hunter Legs this spring. Leg number two was earned in Los Banos at the Hills Ferry Hunting Retriever Club hunt test, and one month later they picked up their third rosette. Luke turned one year old five days before earning that third leg at the Marin Retriever Club test. Luke is becoming a very stylish worker, and this team is really fun to watch. Way to go, guys One more to go!

Gustav” and David took a trip to Southern California November 11th, 2007. Entered in their very first Hunt Test. The GRCGLA Hunt Test proved to be a challenging test for the Junior dogs and Handlers. However, Gustav and David took it all in stride and came home with their first leg toward their JH title having shown they can play team. Handling their way to Victory on the tough water mark that had put several young dogs out they came home with their well earned ribbon!! David and Gustav earned their 2nd JH leg at the Monterey Bay Hunt Test held on February 16th. Two tests, Two legs. Way to Go!

• Topwater Hidden Covenant SH – “Covy” – Yellow Labrador Female – O/H: Jeanne Collier

“Covy” earned 2 SH legs to complete her SH title at the Copper State Hunt Test In Arizona. It was a very happy moment for Jeanne finishing “Covy’s” title. As now “Covy” has turned the page in her life and become a lifelong Hunting Companion to one of Jeanne’s close friends. What more could a girl ask for! A lifetime of hunting!!

• Spiritlodge Sporting Chance JH, WC – “Sport” – O/H: Christine Hsu – Golden Female

“Sport” went to the National Specialty and qualified for her WC title amongst other things. She also placed First in Novice Bitch in Conformation. Along with qualifying as a Triathalon Golden based on the GRCA’s requirements. WOW!!! Way to GO Sporty!!!! Congrats to You!

“Radcliffe” completed his Junior Hunter title at the Sacramento Valley Retriever Club Test held 9/28/2007. For those of us who know “Radcliffe” there isn’t a sweeter person in hairy clothing to come by. He also enjoys his birds very much. Which has helped him through his tests despite very limited amount of training. Bred by Charlotte and co-owned “Radcliffe” has a very nice family who borrowed him to Charlotte to train whenever possible,to reach this goal of JH. Radcliffe intends to enjoy lots of R & R now with his family. Congratulations to you Both!!

• Rockyhill’s Roc’s Red Glare JH – “FireTruck” – O/H: Xan Latta – Liver Flat Coat Male

“Firetruck” roared out like his name implies and picked up his JH Title like a “Man On A Mission”. Travelling from the Sierra Nevadas, to Oroville and Southern California along the way. Titling in Southern Cal at the Inland Valley Retriever Club test 9/22/2007. With limited training while studying for the Bar Exam they still managed to squeeze in time to pick up those four orange ribbons. Xan has much to be happy about. “Firetruck” is proving to be all that she has hoped for. Their next goal is Senior Hunter and already working on handling basics and multiples is going very nicely. Congratulations!!!!

• Ch. Rockyhill’s Western Wishes JH – “Leila”- O/H: Xan Latta – Black Flat Coat Female

“Leila” the speed demon, raced through her JH Title with style and attitude to die for. Finishing at the Inland Valley Retriever Club HT on 9/22/2007. This little black flat coat bitch has surpassed all expectations in her ability to mark and learn new things. Always in tune with working with Xan. They are planning to go on into Senior Hunter. “Leila” shows great promise, already doing multiples, and basic handling nicely, she is a very fun girl to work with. Good Job!!!

• Int. CH Hyegold Midsumr Knights Dream, CDX,TDX,RE,JH,WC,VCX – “Finn” – O/h: Suzanne Bria – Golden Retriever Male

“Finn” completed his JH Title at the NorCal Golden Retriever Club Hunt Test 9/8/2007. How very fitting he finished his title at our Club’s Annual Hunt Test! In addition, “Finn” also passed his WC at the National Specialty (he is now a double qualifier of the WC Title!). “Finn” came to me some time ago. He showed he was able to mark very well, (although we had two types of marking “Finn” showed me he enjoyed, one of which, we made every effort to train him away froM!!!), and he loved the water. “Finn” has a high trainability factor that helps him to do anything he is asked to do once he understands what it is you want. He has been a very fun dog to work with because of this. Suzanne on the other hand (as do many of us) had some issues with trainability that I had to overcome. However, safe to say, Suzanne has come a long way in a short amount of time in field with “Finn”. Her handling skills have improved 100%. I do hope they will choose to go on. Congratulations to you both!!!

• Blue Ribbon Adventure Shuttle SH,WCX ** “Shuttle” – O/H: Diane Glassmeyer – Golden Retriever Female

Not even two years old and “Shuttle” has earned her Senior Hunter title! Finishing her title at the Sacramento Valley Retriever Club HT on 9/29/2007. Having just returned from the National Specialty where she earned her WC and WCX titles she left no stone unturned in completing her SH very nicely. Hunting Season starts on Oct. 20th and Diane and “Shuttle” have big plans to go Hunting! I am sure they will be both have a wonderful time! Congratulations to you Both! “Keltie” completed her Senior Hunter title at the NorCal GRC HT. She did a nice job and I was very proud of her. I put “Keltie” in her first Master Hunter test at Sac Valley Retriever Club test on 9/28/2007 and she got her first Master Hunter leg. She was a very good girl! We will continue to train toward Master and Qualifying field Trials…

“Flyer” Completed her Senior Hunter Title at the Sagehen’s Hunt Test held on 10/6/2007. “Flyer” did some very nice work on her 5th leg for Senior. Slamming her marks and handling beautifully through her blinds. “Flyer” has been on the rampage picking up her 3rd SH leg at NorCal HT and her 4th leg at Sac Valley HT in September.Congratulations to you both. “Gabby” galloped through her last three legs of Senior without too much trouble. She did have her moments tho!!! Where I had to just realize this is “Gabby” and that’s the way it is! Earning her title at the Sagehens HT. Picking up the 2nd and 3rd legs at the Nor Cal Ht and Sac Valley. Now on to Master and Quals!!

“Musette” earned her first Master Hunter leg at the NorCal GRC Hunt Test 9/8/2007. It was a challenging test and “Musette” and Debbie played good team work throughout. Hearty Congratulations to you Both!!! “Musette” is currently working in obedience but will be coming back to finish her Master in due time.

“Covey” picked up her first Senior Hunter leg at the Sagehen’s Retriever Club Test 10/6/2007. She and Jeanne did a beautiful job on the marks and blinds alike. Yippee!!!! Good Job!

“Zinger” was happy to be out running Master tests after sending her children off to thier new homes. Proving she still has what it takes she has passed both Master tests she has been entered in. NorCal and Sac Valley were very succesfull for her and Jean. Welcome Back Zinger!!!

CH. Pikkinkoa’s Beach Bonfire CGC, WC – “Sparky” – O/H: Alyssa Danford – Novia Scotia Duck Toller – Male

Alyssa and “Sparky” took a trip to Canadian Toller National Specialty in July. They both have reason to be very proud of themselves. In a field of 22 Tollers entered in the WC, only 6 passed. “Sparky” was one of those six to earn his WC Title. Alyssa writes: “Almost all of the dogs that went before us didn’t go to the bird but instead went out and wandered around and took many pitt stops out in the field. “Sparky” marked each bird PERFECTLY and didn’t stop and went straight out and straight in with great SPEED.” His water work was spectacular and he delivered to hand on each series.The Judges told Alyssa what a good job marking and staying focused “Sparky” did! After the test, folks gathered around Alyssa and “Sparky” to find out more about him. Alison Strang was there who wrote the book on Tollers and is a well known breeder. She said it was one of the best jobs she’d seen of a toller in field WC. WOW!!! Talk about being recognized. “Sparky” continued to be succesful in the conformation ring being shown by Alyssa and his breeder and taking 3rd Place both days he showed in breed. Amongst tough International competition. “Sparky” is an awesome retriever and is exciting to watch. His birdiness and drive is undeniably a testament to his natural instinct. His trainability and team work with Alyssa is a wonderful sight to behold. They plan to go on and train in field for his Junior Hunter title now. Congratulations to you both. I am very proud of you!!!

Oriana Vhat A Card Am.CD, WC, JH, CGC, CCA, Can. CD, WCI – “Trumper” – O/H: Barbara Brinkerhoff – Golden Male

“Trumper” and Barbara also took a trip up to Canada in July, and came back with their WCI and CD Titles. Barbara called me to tell me the good news. “Trumper” received compliments from the Judges at the WCI test. Passing the first time, “Trumper” had been entered twice. Barbara decided to give the WCX a try instead of rerunning the WCI test. The Canadian WCX does include a blind too. Despite not passing the test Barbara was well pleased with the marks “Trumper” did and he even (despite only just starting to train for handling) did take the back command on the blind but was not quite ready for the handling part. “Trumper” is currently working toward his Senior Hunter, WCX and CDX Titles. Congratulations to you Both! Good Job!!!

Intl-CH Hyegold Midsumr Knights Dream CDX, RE, TDX, WC, VC, CCA, CGC, ASCA – TD (AKC pointed) – “Finn” – O : Suzanne Bria & Christine Hsu – H: Suzanne Bria- Golden Male

“Finn” and Suzanne went to Gervais, Oregon and completed their 3rd JH leg at the Salem Retriever Clubs Hunt test on 7/22/2007. Suzanne said despite her having problems focusing due to the excessive heat and humidity “Finn” was able to perform flawlessly. It did turn out to be a very trying day for both of them as an accidental shooting of one of the gunners caused an almost 3 hour delay. The shooting occured while Suzanne and Finn were waiting for the live flier duck to be shot on the water series. According to Suzanne the gunners from the live flier station were so focused on shooting the duck that as the bird flew up and outward they shot the gunner at the dead bird station in the face. I can only imagine how scarey it all was. All I can think is how important it is at these tests to adhere to the Hunters Safety course policy. Don’t shoot if there is any chance of hitting a person!! It’s not worth it! Congratulations to both of you! Let’s go out and get that JH Title soon. Finn is currently in field training working on his WCX and Senior Hunter title. This boy has lots of trainability and drive.

I am thrilled to bits for Christine and “Sporty” finishing their JH title at the Umpqua Valley Retriever Club Double Header held in early June. Passing both days with terrific style both on land and water. It seems like yesterday when Christine and Sport came to me for the first time. Sport immediately let me know she Loved Birds and retrieving. All we had to do was add some polish to the handler and dog and they were off to the Hunt Tests. Huge Congrats to you. I am super proud of them both. Neither Christine or Sport lack drive, or the ability to learn. They are now preparing for Senior.

Ardenwood’s As Time Goes By JH, WC – “Zip” – O/H: Joe and Patti Skorupa- Liver Flat Coat Male

“Zip” and Patti earned their WC Title at the Flat Coat Retriever Society’s National Speciality on June 8, 2007. In addition to passing his WC first time out “Zip” Placed 4th in the Unsteady singles. Joe writes ” As the second youngest dog entered, Zip (!!!) finished 4th in Unsteady Singles with a spectacular 5th mark (water through cat tails). A slightly better third land fall and more experience with lily pads and he might have won. He was impressive. Lots of praise from the Judges too! Huge Congratulations!

SR Magicgold’s Celtic Causeway JH, WC ** “Keltie” O/H: Cheryl Baca -Golden Retriever Female

“Keltie” picked up her first JAM in a Derby held at San Jose R.C. Field Trial, on 5/12/2007 at Denverton Road. She held on and managed to complete a total of six series. Normally there is four. However, along the way one test set up was scratched due to several dogs being unable to find the birds. Keltie was one of three dogs who ran that test that found the birds. Ugly as it was. The Judges set up 4 water series and 2 land series and I was very proud of Keltie’s efforts throughout. If a golden JAMS or Places in Derby they carry two stars at the end of their name to show this accomplishment. I am very happy both girls did so well in their very short Derby careers and carry two stars. Now we are back in to Hunt Tests and possibly Quals as time moves on.

Blue Ribbon Adventure Shuttle JH ** “Shuttle” O/H: Diane Glassmeyer – Golden Retriever Female

“Shuttle” and Diane went to their very first Derby held by NorCal , 5/20/2007 held at Denverton Road. It is with great pride I announce little “Shuttle” showed everyone there how the golden girls can and do well up against the Professionally trained dogs running. Completing all the series and receiving a JAM for her good work! Yippee! When I say Professionally trained I mean dogs who have been in kennels since forcing and go home occasionally. “Shuttle” enjoys her home life and working together with Diane. Early on Diane and I discussed her options with “Shuttle’s” field career. One of the topics that was discussed was sending “Shuttle” to a Pro for in-house training. We discussed the Pros (no pun intended) and the cons of doing this. I am glad Diane opted to continue working with “Shuttle” herself. This is quite a team. “Shuttle” snuggles at night with Diane, and works for her with focus and a willingness that is a wonderful sight to behold. Congratulations to you both. Diane continues to work hard with “Shuttle, practising drills and marks almost daily.  Diane’s hard work and “Shuttle’s ” talent and trainability  are paying off!

NEW TITLES

 DD’s Here to Stay TD, SH, OA, OAJ, RN, WCX “Keeper” O:Chris Hempel and Maureen Degnan H: Chris Hempel – Golden Retriever Male

“Keeper” and Chris finished their Senior Hunter Title on May 4th, 2007 at the Sierra Nevada Retriever Club Hunt Test. The test was held in Fallon, Nevada. “Keeper” was entered in the Senior tests both days. He did his Mom’s and Me proud. Running beautifully, receiving applause from all of us in the Gallery. He earned his Title and an extra leg with lots of style. Chris did an exceptional job of Handling “Keeper”. I cannot express how supremely proud of them I am. These two have journeyed with me through thick and thin to attain the title. “Keeper” is my first client dog to attain a Senior Hunter title. Both Chris and Keeper will be moving forward in to Master in the not to distant future.

Vermillion Skylard Fiery Spice CD, NAP, NJP, RN, BRT, WC “Chili” O/H: Kathy Gibson – Novia Scotia Duck Toller – Male

“Chili” and Kathy took the trip down South to the Toller Specialty too. The test “Chili” and Kathy entered was the Basic Retriever Test (BRT) for tollers. “Chili” passed with flying colors. Which then made it easy to decide they were ready to try the WC test for tollers at the NorCal GRC WC/WCX test held June 2nd, 2007. I am proud to announce they passed the WC with great style. When I met “Chili” and Kathy in 2006 he was a young puppy. He showed a great deal of promise. We spent our time introducing “Chili” to birds, retrieving and marking concepts in the earl days. However, we felt at some point he needed a break from field to mature out and off they went to pick up some obedience and agility titles. Apparently the time away from field did no damage. Since “Chili” has matured his return to field work shows nothing but positive results. Congratulations to you both on your recent success. A cute sideline at the NorCal WC/WCX awards ceremony Kathy and “Chili” sat in front of me. Each time I applauded “Chili” would turn around and look at me and pull toward me. I almost thought he would pull Kathy right off her chair. Tollers as a breed are known for their stand offish personality if you are not in their Pack. I felt very honored “Chili” still felt I am a member of his elite pack after time away from me.

Redrock’s Venture With Me RA, CDX, WC “Venture” – O/H: Linda Tarvey – Novia Scotia Duck Toller – Male

“Venture” and Linda took a trip down South to the Toller Specialty 4/28/2007-4/29/2007, the field events were held at Prado Dog Training Area. “Venture” was entered in the WC both days as an insurance to come home titled. Saturday, temperatures were in the high 80′s. After successfully completing the land series “Venture”headed to the water series. By the time they reached the endless line of holding blinds it was a test to see who wanted to get in the water more. Linda or “Venture”? As required part of the tolling WC test a toller must perform a tolling tests with an object other than a bird at the waters edge prior to doing his retrieve for a mark with ducks. During this process the gunners for the marks are out at their stations. “Venture” was quite appalled that he would have to toll first and insisted on letting Linda know this was not the way he would run this part of the test by circling her in the holding blind several times before commencing on to his tolling 4 times successfully. Nothing says the tollers can’t have an opinion! “Venture” then went on to successfully complete his water marks and receive his title of WC. For good measure “Venture” also completed the next days test. Their plans are to go on and try for a Junior Hunter title next. Congratulations to you both. I am very proud to have helped you accomplish your goals so far.

Magicgold Wheels Of Fire SH, CGC,WCX  “Blaze” O/H:Cheryl Baca – Golden Retriever Female

 ”Blaze” earned her 3rd Master Hunter leg at the Sierra Nevada Retriever Club Hunt test. Under the infamous Russ and Stacy Reavis team. She gave her all for this leg. I did too! It was so nice to have the teamwork needed at this level and enjoy our victory together!

 ”Flyer” living up to her name flew though two Senior Hunter tests picking up two legs toward her title at the recent Sierra Nevada Retriever Club Hunt Tests. This fast stylish little golden worked well with her handler and awed the Judges with her talent and speed.  Congratulations to you both!

“Keltie” received a Senior Hunter pass at the recent Sierra Nevada Hunt Test making it a total of 3 Senior Hunter legs to date. Just one more for a title.   “Keltie” and I are embarrassed to admit to some recent failures in Senior that are direct result of focusing on Derby, and forgetting to practise handling drills and blinds regularly. We plan on pulling our socks up now, and buckling down to get that last leg. I share this with all of you to assure you that indeed I fail too. I am human. For those of you who dwell on the failures at tests I can only say DON’T. Most of you have a good idea why you failed. Sometimes stuff happens, sometimes you aren’t putting in the time. You have to decide what needs to be done. If anything.

“Fire Truck” earned his first Junior Hunter leg at the Sierra Nevada Hunt Test and picked up his second Junior Hunter leg at the Marin Retriever Club Test. I am very proud of Fire Truck who came to me some time ago and has developed very nicely with Xan faithfully attending classes and working on training Fire Truck has shown us he can play this game and be succesfull!

When Xan came to me to help Fire Truck with his  field training I couldn’t help noticing another black dog in her vehicle. I was curious why we weren’t doing both the dogs. Xan explained “Leila” was an agility dog and was probably not a good candidate for field trainng. I asked if we couldn’t just see what she thought before deciding. Xan agreed. It was very apparent “Leila” was a high drive girl who also loved the retrieving game. We decided to include “Leila” in training too. I am very proud to say she also earned her 1st Junior Hunter leg at Sierra Nevada Hunt Test and her second at the Marin Retriever Club Hunt Test.  ”Leila” is continuing training and showing a lot of potential to move forward in to Senior. I am glad I am a nosey person and asked to try out “Leila” in field too. She is having a ball! Xan gets to handle two dogs in tests which she is managing beautifully.

Intl-CH Hyegold Midsumr Knights Dream CDX,RE,TDX, CCA,ASCA -TD  “Finn” – O:Suzanne Bria and Christine Hsu – H: Suzanne Bria – Golden Retriever Male

“Finn” and Suzanne took a trip to Puget Sound to visit friends and decided to enter a hunt test held by the Puget Sound Labrador Retriever Club Hunt Test near Seattle. “Finn” scores were 9′s and 10′s across the board and he had an exceptional day earning his first JH leg. He then went on to complete another JH leg at the Marin Retriever Clubs test in Oroville. Hurray! Half way there now! Remembering my first encounter with “Finn”  and Suzanne, it’s only fair to say Suzanne and “Finn” have worked hard at changing old habits, and learning new ones. Safe to say. We’ve come a long way Baby! Thanks to “Finn’s high trainablity level. Congratulations to you both!   Super proud of you!

CH. Starworker’s Dealers Choice – “Casino” O/H: Keli Martin – Black Flat Coat Male

“Casino” earned his third JH leg at the Marin Retriever Club. Keli came to me several months ago asking if I could take a look at “Casino”.  A beautiful male flat coat, with a strong personality. He had got two JH legs some time ago.  Keli wanted to get the last 2 legs and was having difficulty succeeding.  “Casino” just couldn’t seem to mark when we first met. That has changed considerably.  We worked dilligently through different marking drills to help develop “Casino’s” marking. I am proud to say that Keli worked hard at home with her family of throwers, to perfect “Casino’s” marking skills. “Casino” apparently smacked all four marks in the test. Keli is a true testament of working hard with her dog to attain the goals she sets.  Congratulations!!!

Windfall’s Not From Texas -  “Julia” O: Keli Martin & Mary Young H: Keli Martin – Black Flat Coat Female

“Julia” at just 11 months old earned her first JH leg at the Marin Retriever Club Hunt Test. When I first met “Julia” she was a very busy little girl. So busy sometimes she just couldn’t hear her Momma Keli calling her to come. We took some time to teach “Julia” about whistle recalls and collar conditioned to recall on a whistle. Things started moving forward rapidly with Keli finishing up the force fetch part of Julia’s training at home. We continued to meet and work on basic marking concepts and stretching Julia out. It all came togehter beautifully. Keli was a very happy girl when I saw at the Marin test. I couldn’t have been happier for her. She is off to the Flatcoat Specialty where she hopes to pick up more ribbons.      

Topwater Under His Wings – “Shad” – O/H: Jeanne Collier – Black Labrador Female

“Shad” and Jeanne have so far earned 3 JH legs toward her title.  She is proving herself as a great little retriever along with being a much loved companion at the Collier Household. Congratulations to you both.
